IM IN UR COMM, WANKIN ABOUT UNFUNNY MACROS
The curse of the LJ spotlight strikes again!

A cat_macros newbie posts what she describes as "an image of a cat stuck in a sewer with the text 'OMFG LOL.'" The community responds, YOUR CAT MACRO IS NOT FUNNY AND YOU ARE A BAD PERSON FOR POSTING IT. She retorts, MY MACRO IS JUST AS FUNNY AS ALL THE OTHERS HERE, SO STFU. Only with more TL;DR. OP then deletes the macro. But leaves up a semi-amusing one about Jesus.

All I have to say is ...

There's also been wank about font used and images just plain not being macro-worthy. I never thought capslock and kitties could be such SERIOUS BUSINESS.

I made a couple of macros of my cat and have been showing them, then the community to my family. They've asked me if I've posted it to the community. My answer, "No. Because they're mean."

So many posts complaining about "noobs" and how much they suck. I'd rather just go enjoy the funny kitties without the pressure.

I went into the page source to find the actual URL and C&Ping it into the browser bar still gave me the hotlinked image. D: So WHAT IS IT? I MUST KNOW. IS IT A CAT??

I just want to say it makes me very sad that people keep ruining what would be a brilliant macro by using improper spelling/grammar. Spelling things wrong etc is only funny when used very sparingly.

Can someone tell me when images began being called 'macros'?

As far as I've know, in 20+ years of computing, macros were a short sequence of code or typing which would be replaced by a large sequence of code or type.

Are they using the word macro as in "a picture says 1000 words"? If so, it's a really stupid usage, and one that's ensured to make the net even DUMBER than it currently is.
