customers_suck never fails to deliver.

In this post, sebbythewolf writes about how a man put on a pair of pants (price tags out), went to the cashier, and told her to "scan his ass". Cashier decks the guy, police are called, and both are given a warning and told to go their seperate ways.

tattooedkingpin shows up in several places commenting on the fact that the girl shouldn't have assaulted the man, since he wasn't assaulting her. Several people point out that the girl was justified in her reaction. One claims self defense, while others point out that it could be seen as sexual harassment. Then we get the question of weather physical abuse is worse than verbal abuse, which is answered rather nicely right here. Of course, tattooedkingpin doesn't really get it, and he continues to post, ridiculing people for supporting the cashier. this comment sums up his point pretty well. It's a bit...odd, to say the least, but the real wank is because he won't admit that other people have the right to feel differently about the situation.

So, here is a quick summary of what happened.

sebbythewolf: *tells story of a guy being an ass and a cashier responding*
Some people: hooray for her!
tattooedkingpin: hey, she can't do that! Assult & Battery is wrong!
collective body of C_S: WTF?! assault charges blah blah sexual harassment blah blah opinions.
tattooedkingpin: You guys suck, and I'm going to tell you how you're wrong!
Everybody: RAAAAGH!

There are so many things wrong with that whole post.

(also, I did post in the topic, but I think I managed to avoid the splooge. If the stuff I said becomes wanky, though, I'll move this over to i_wank)

Especially the part where the guy had his back to the cashier and she punched him in the eye. Clearly she is a descendant of Stretch Armstrong.

...Now, wait.

Am I the only person who doesn't think that hitting him was a valid response?

Backing away slowly is more what I'd do. But hitting him? Look, harrassment or no, that's a little overboard, IMO.

If he'd kept bothering her after she'd said to stop? Sure, hit him. In the context of what was posted? Nope, not a valid response.

And I'm a precious little girly girl, so hermioneann can't be all "oh, you're a guy, your opinion is invalidated".

(What the fuck is with The thing is, for girls, we never can no for certain that no violence is implied.?)

I agree. Tell him to fuck off and stay away from the store, or call the security if he continues to act out of line, but punching him... Yeah, overboard.

I agree with you.

Sure I can understand why she'd be upset but I can't help but think there were about a half dozen better ways to handle the situation then punching the guy.

Definetely agreed.

Also, call me a bitch, but had the gender role in that one been reversed, the responses would be vastly different. I think that's sad.

This exchange is elegant in its "no winners" perfection.

And no freaking way to I believe the punch actually happened; on the other hand, I can easily believe the ass with the ass trying to call security on the clerk if all she did was tell him to get his butt off the counter.

I'd've called security before hitting him, myself.

Of course, I'm not sure security would come, after the fiasco the other day when a guy had me call them to report a guy he said had stolen something. It turned out the other guy was a friend that the first guy was trying to play a prank on.

I just have to say that it must be nice for all those people who work in a place where the management would actually give a shit if a customer was sexually harassing one of their employees.
