Semi-related personal anecdote:

I have a friend from college who, over the summer, was had a...genital operation. I don't like to call it genital mutilation because she decided to do it, but basically she had a cut made in the clitoral hood, which is a tradition in her culture. (Her family is African, and I can't remember where they're from...I want to say Mali?) Anyway, that's totally different from clitoral removal, but she said it didn't hurt that much, and her boyfriend says she comes just fine.
