Over at Pandagon, Amanda Marcotte makes a post on third-wave feminism. In it, she quotes a Dan Savage advice column where a woman engaged in some light bondage was anally raped by her boyfriend. The commenters are generally horrified.


Except for Phoenician in a time of Romans. He makes the mistake of not reading the entire column and jumps in with Safewords, anyone? Other people point out that this was not a safeword situation and suggest that Phoenician gets off on rape.

I'm pretty much in agreement with the sensible majority pointing out that a safeword is lower-octane than a firmly established pre-sex policy of "No, I will not have anal sex with you. Ever."

Compared to that, "Flapjacks" or "Garfield" or "Parliament" is comparatively ambiguous.

if there's any confusion in anyone's minds that that was rape, i despair for society.

some guys just want to know they can get away with anything. a safeword in this situation is moot - i know many bdsmers who do not use a safeword, instead adhering to the RACK principle. if he is incapable of reading her responses and the energy in the situation, then a safeword becomes irrelevant. quite obviously a case of a selfish, insensitive fuckwad (didn't even call 911 until he came, what a cock) taking advantage of a situation.

So...I'm 5'3, 125 pounds. I'm fairly *fit*, and I take martial arts, but if I'm naked and lying down, and someone else is a good bit larger than I am, I'm probably at a pretty serious disadvantage if he decides he wants something I don't.
