No horses were harmed in this rape wank
Over at Pandagon, Amanda Marcotte makes a post on third-wave feminism. In it, she quotes a Dan Savage advice column where a woman engaged in some light bondage was anally raped by her boyfriend. The commenters are generally horrified.

Except for Phoenician in a time of Romans. He makes the mistake of not reading the entire column and jumps in with Safewords, anyone? Other people point out that this was not a safeword situation and suggest that Phoenician gets off on rape.

And it's all wank from there.
Bondage = BDSM
I know this because I have a friend who teaches seminars.
We're not hearing the full story.
He's not a rapist because he threated to kill himself.

Phoenician gets tired and goes away for a bit, but not to worry! JDCasteleiro jumps in to defend Phoenician's honor.
If she'd had a safeword, she might not have been raped.
Accusing me of blaming the victim means you want women to get raped.
Y'all are just a hive vagina mind that hates body piercings.

And that's only half of the thread.

That's wanky enough, but Jesurgislac takes it upon him(?)self to jump on Phoenician in unrelated posts to remind everyone what a nasty rape apologist Phoenician is. Phoenician calls Jesurgislac Pinocchio as a comeback, and everyone else whistles and pretends they aren't there.

Edit: And on a completely different blog (but on the same topic), JDCasteleiro
declares he's leaving because no one understands him/everyone is picking on him. Except he doesn't. And his girlfriend shows up.

So did anyone else read "Dan Savage" as Adam Savage and get excited for Mythbusters wank?

I don't remember where I saw it on LJ, but I remember that someone said that they had met Jamie and Adam. Apparently they're douchebags in real life :/ I know I was bummed.

Huh. That's kinda new to me. On the other hand, I've heard the build team (Or have they been upgraded to Mythbusters now? The new credits are confusing.) are absolute sweethearts from people who met them at Dragon Con last year.

There was also a post somewhere about how Jon Stewart is actually a complete asshole IRL and annoyed that people think he supports the same beliefs he presents in his show. I tend to take these kind of posts with a grain of salt.

Jon Stewart? o_o I could somewhat believe it if they had said Stephen Colbert, since I know lots of people miss his satire, but Jon Stewart? *mindboggle*

Yeah, they also claimed that he'd called some kid fat when he was doing stand up at a university or something, which I'm sure they either made up or took out of context.

Well, I do know they don't really get along very well. (A family friend recently popped in to visit us here in SF because he works for the New York TImes and had been sent over to do an article on them. He got to watch them make a show and everything, the lucky bastard!) But I didn't here anything about them being not *nice*, just very opposite.

Yeah, IMDb has FAQ about Mythbusters and it says there they're not friends outside the show. I reckon they get along during it just like other colleagues do.

I read Dan Savage and thought "Michael Savage", the crazy conservative radio guy. That was somehow even wierder.

I thought of the right Dan Savage, but was somehow afraid it was about him being a jerk to this woman... and though I disagree with him sometimes I just couldn't see it. Thankfully, he was not, at all.

I'd bust Adam Savage's myth. That's all I'm saying.
