Over at [info]seattle, [info]validkittykitty wanks about gun control. This is reported to [info]stupid_free, where, unsurprisingly, the wank continues.

My WTFness for years has been over people identifying themselves as "registered Republicans", "registered Democrats", and so on. I had no freaking idea what that meant until I found out that in a number of states there's a section where one has to pick a party (or "decline to state" like I saw in a California voter registration form).

I don't know about other states but Illinois doesn't have this on their voter registration form. One doesn't "declare party" at all. In the presidential primaries, one is required at the polling place to pick a party ticket ("Which ticket do you want, Republican or Democrat?" "Uh, can I have both plus the 'other'?" "Sorry, ma'am, you can only have one. Which one would you like?")

Clear as mud.

But it's the first sentence that looks like word salad to me.
