Oh, Britania.
Okay, does this really bear explaining?

So some English punk posts about how inferior Americans are and doesn't even have the drive to be funny about it.

But ofcourse, someone finds it funny and feels that it has to be shared with the world, forgetting that Americans are part of said world.

And it is on! People are, ofcourse, unimpressed by failed sense of humor and not even thinly veiled condescension.

Americans blatantly prove him wrong by going on about Mets, Yankees and the scientific definition of a Californian rather than giving him the attention he craves.

Apiphile quirks on the real reason behind teh hatredz.

But let this be a lesson to this new crowd of so called 'anglophiles' who think the U.K. is a bunch of lovely victorian like people sitting around eating krumpets and drinking tea.

(outside of MQ, a reply to his journal- if this is not allowed, please let me know and I will remove it immediately)Speaking of Anglophiles, cue obligatory "ooh mr brittish man, its true, its true! Were all just like that! Oh please excuse us, mr brittish man, were the enlightened americans who see the error of our people's ways! please take pity on us and take us to your land of tea and krumpets and that weird sport with that black and white ball and spice girls!!111'

For all he talks about Americans, he's pretty big on the stereotyping- Not only on the American stereotypes, but English too with this 'yankee' buisness. In growing up in London, I've heard many ways to refer to Americans; 'Americans', 'People from America', 'those people' and 'Yeah, Good Ol' We'll Wait Until The Last Minute To Join The War When London Has Already Been Leveled And Blitzed Half Way To Hell'.. Maybe it's used in places like Manchester which are decidedly bitter because they spent most of the nineties getting their asses handed to them by Liverpool-*shotshotshot* but I never heard the term Yankee being used for an American by an English person in modern times outside of television or American-written books.

And on the "Disproportionate Levels of Enthusiasm" Uh.. Is he for real? I mean, really? Come on, now. Has this man ever been near a pub? Think Englishman Drinking Prowess + Subconscious awareness that nearby police aren't really armed.

Wanky but small. Just like the English. OH. I JUST WENT THERE. IF YOU'RE OFFENDED YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND MY SENSE OF SARCASM AND YOU'RE A YANK. HAH HAH.

Oh, English wank. Perfect timing after a lot of Dr. Who and Eddie Izzard icons.

EDIT:After repeatedly eating my foot in the comments below, I'd like to go on to make a big apology that I let my own wankiness get in the way of the funnez and that this post came off as bad as it did. I was hasty and to say this was unbiased would be an obvious lie- No, I am not American, but living here I was quick to get my underwear in a knot. In my own self righteous indignity, I forgot that the intrenets iz not serious buisness. Please accept my apologies and crumpets with a K. I'd also offer you my left foot, but I already promised it away to someone else.)

You know, this wank report and the other wanks aren't really humor, they're more like humor-loaf. You know, made from real humor parts, chunked and formed.

What about humor-spam? We could have a little song about it.

Well, of course we talk about food. It's not our fault, Britain, that our cuisine is better than yours.

granted, that was twenty years ago, before the salad bar boom

! speaking of veggie booms, this reminds me of a trend I've seen spring up in the last few years. Now, you can find stalls selling fresh fruit in almost any public location. Streets, airports, gas stations, amusement parks! I cannot describe my amazed surprise the first time I saw someone selling bananas and oranges in an amusement park. When I was a child (considerably less than 20 years ago) you would never see such a thing in an amusement park; it was all packaged and unhealthy and TRADITIONAL fair foods, like cotton candy! :)

So yeah. Some sort of health boom? It amazes me!

That's a point - what is American cuisine? Showing my Brit roots here, but I think of burgers and ribs as American, and I'm not sure that I'd choose those over what I think of as British Cuisine.

:( Depends, what region did you want?

South - fried chicken, grits, collared greens, biscuits and gravy
southwest - primarily Mexican influenced spicy, think GOOD taco bell
New England - rich sea food, like lobster and oysters rockefeller
California - sushi, "fusion" like pasties made with fajita fixings instead of the traditional Cornish pasty
America in general - pizza!

That's the problem with American cuisine, it's whatever immigrants bring to the table as they contribute to a community through history and blend with other cultures. I didn't even get into Cajun or Texmex. But anyway, burgers and ribs are BBQ cuisine, which tends to invoke Memphis. And what about the brain burger? That's a southern thing brought over by a German community.

Anyway, pick a state, and they'll have something different that is absolutely "American" cuisine.

American food is nice enough, but the portions are too big. When we visited, I always had to share a meal with somebody else to clear the plate.

And that's all courses, even breakfast, which I don't even eat, usually.

American restaurant portions are absurdly huge. Sensible Americans don't eat like that on a daily basis :)

I usually share meals with someone else when I go out to eat, and it's not uncommon to bring leftovers home from that.

So, yes, also wishing that restuarants would offer smaller, reasonably priced portions.

Why is everyone complaining about the lack of lulz? This is my favorite otf post ever. The english punk is hilarious and so are the replies he gets, defending food posts et al.

In a weird way, I enjoy getting made fun of. I make fun of my own country all the time - which is very, very sad. :(

...I'm sorry you have a sense of humor? America is sure serious business.

I don't get that quote either. Making fun of our government is a national pastime! Criticizing Bush (at least where I live, in a blue state) is like saying "My, that Gerald Ford certainly is clumsy!" was in 1979. Funny, yes, accurate, you betcha, but very, very obvious. Still good for the lulz, at any rate.
