The wank report is the only wanky thing about this.

People in the UK call North Americans 'Yanks' all the time (or 'septics' in rhyming slang) - just like lots of North Americans call all people from the UK 'Brits' or 'the English'.

Not sure what the Manchester/Liverpool thing is all about either - you talking about football?

This whole thing is odd. (And it's 'Brittania' and 'Britain' and 'crumpet'.)
