So, recently a video showing a demonstration of a product known as the Cat Spa has been making it's way around the internet and gathering attention. Someone decides to post the link to Metafilter. And it gets quite the reception.

-That's horrible, cruel, and disturbing, and I laughed all the way through. I really don't like cats.

-Elpapacito, what ? You don't like that ? You obviously are not familiar with the Pedestrian Spa Chambers scattered across the West Coast. Entire families line up down city blocks to be part of the spa chamber experience. "The jets are coming!" scream the children. "I can't get out!" scream the men. "It's like an interactive bidet!" scream the grandfathers. And everybody walks home as wet and happy as acrobatic cats.

-"And crash, I'm just glad you didn't find a version with a pug in it, you anti-pugite."
A pug would just lie there and hope it drowned him.
"Blessed release!" he would think to himself.

-Cats don't like being spayed or neutered either. I don't see any of you people protesting that as cruelty.

-This would be so much better with a semi-hysterical Japanese voiceover.

-i love when people see this and say "omg i'd kill the person who..."
yeah. everytime i see someone do something violent i want to hit them in the face with a brick.
get over yourselves.

-Waterboarding for cats.
Its OK because 'they' aren't human, and is it just as 'hilarious' when they are?

-I have recently read somewhere that, a few centuries ago, they would hang live cats by the tail over a fire and kings and populace alike would laugh their heart out: this kind of show was considered an hilarious delight.
So, it could be said that suffering cats are still used to entertain, but on the suffering cat scale, we are much more civilized.

-Say your toddler needs an injection, in the butt. The kid hates injections. Are you folks going to say that you accompanying the child and coo-cooing it while it gets the shot is the same as sticking the kid into some injection-giving-robot-confinement-box?

-That cat isn't in distress. It's trying to get out by folding the fabric of spacetime itself. It's trying to get out so it can kill.
The kitty is just fine. It just hungers for human flesh.

-Seriously. The cat and waterboarding subject are both terrified because they think they're going to die. A cat DOES NOT freak out like that if he's merely annoyed.

-Actually, "waterboarding your cat" wins the award for the dumbest/most hilarious thing written on MetaFilter this week.
"Why do you keep shitting outside your litterbox?" *blurble burble blurble blurble meoooooww!*

The only reason that's so funny is the song. There is much laughing and crying in my room right now.

I couldn't stand the first few moments. It's curiously sniffing out its new surroundings and I actually said out loud (I'm alone so there's no need for me to talk to myself) "That poor fucker doesn't know what it's in for! Awwww!"

Then it started bouncing around and I giggled. Then I saw its expression and thought, "Awww, fuck."

I'm torn on this one. I guess Sebastian helps make it funny :)

It was cute when it was sniffing around, and at the start of the mexican jumping bean kitty phase, but once he put his paws the glass and started mewing...I was sunk.

Yeah, that was awful!

...

I don't know why I giggled when I watched it. Bouncy kitties just make me laugh, I guess.

Bouncy kitties are fun, but they're more fun when you're making them bounce after a mouse on a string. There's nothing that can beat watching a cat backflip right in front of you, even if it does sometimes end with him landing in the water bowl.

Yeah, I prefer kitties bouncing out of pleasure and fun rather than fear.

Speaking of which, my kitten just chased me, walking on her back legs, while I walked to the laundry to feed her. Priceless!

I have limited sympathy for the cat, as I firmly believe the retaliatory measure will far outweigh the suffering. Did you see the look on its face when they were drying him off? I hope those humans sleep with shotguns nearby.

It will come for them when they sleep.

I got to the point where the cat started jumping around trying frantically to get out and I just couldn't watch any more. D:

Wouldn't it be really hard to breath in that kind of machine? Like having your face in the shower spray and being unable to take it out? Yeah, not nice. Maybe for cats who will kill you if you try to bathe them by hand, but I'm almost certain I could design a less water-torture-like device if I had any kind of technical knowledge.

This lends excellent support to my believe my dog was, in fact, a cat in a fursuit.

We had to tie that munchkin up outside on a long rope outside and spray her with a hose just to get her wet. Then she would start running in circles, frantic, until she hurled herself at our knees. When we brought her inside, she would dash in circles around the house until she hurled herself onto the couch with such force she went over the back and dented the blinds. Then of course, she'd sit on the couch staring angrily until you made a movement towards her, thus beginning the entire running thing again.

She was a 60 pound black lab who smelled like corn chips if we didn't do this enough.

P.S. There was no way they could've known the cat would react that way. I looked it up and there are pictures of cats who seem relatively calm (if not ticked) here.

Now I really wonder-- is it just a warm-water bath with no soap, or did they come up with some kind of 'no tears' formula that they can spray the critters down with?

Don't worry, our black lab is a cat in a fursuit, too.

Hee. That reminds me of my dogs. Usually they're pretty good while in the bath, but once you get them out they start flipping out and running around the house like some had shoved a cattle prod up their ass. The one has a habit of getting up a running start and then throwing herself into a rather impressive backslide across the living room carpet. We think that she's trying to dry herself off that way.

We have to confine my dog on our front porch or have someone hold him on his leash when we wash him, otherwise he'll run off (our yard isn't fenced-in). He -hates- getting water poured on him, though he does love it when we start scrubbing at him (he loves getting scratched, to the point where he'll scratch himself on the bushes in the front yard). As soon as we start the rinse, though, he tries to take off again- then he's angry the rest of the day. Luckily he's only a little potato-shaped Beagle/Basset hound mix, so confining him is no problem.

I am quite fond of the, er, logical comment by the YouTube poster in response to unkind e-mails:

You go and say that this is cruel, yet you're totally fine with a human being getting murdered. I don't understand that logic.

Because clearly, if people are complaining about cruelty to cats they don't give a damn about humans. I love either/or!

Hey, cats practically ARE human. ^_~ Hating on kittens means you hate little babies too.

I'm sorry, but even multiple viewings can't make that any less hilarious.

Besides, pet torture is good practice for when I have my own little ones to traumatize and abuse.

There's a post in cat_macros about it, not funny-wank yet, but the wank is spreading!

I like the person who says they're going to post the video in comms about children, politics, etc.

Deleting comments there too. I managed to cap a few of them, since I think that post doesn't have too long to live.

Godwin's has been invoked in the YouTube comments:

due to its limited understanding of what was happeneing i would say the cat felt the same way as the jews felt in the gas chambers
