The Bible Says You Can't Flame The Weather Man!
While this may lack the spectacular explosiveness of other wanks, I think the fact that these dear folks are wanking over weather reports makes up for it.

Birmingham, Alabama is a town that hasn't seen a good snow storm since the good ol' blizzard of '93, when everyone walked up-hill both ways for their milk and bread.

Every winter the tantalizing prospect of snow tortures the snow lovers in the deep south. But since Mother Nature is a tease and hasn't been willing to put out lately, the folks who frequent the ABC 33/40 Weather Blog have decided to take things into their own hands.

There's lots of arguing about the GFS model's inability to predict the temps, so I'm going to take pity on the lazy and put most of the best stuff right behind this cut here... (which means it's long!)

Things really got started on Saturday when head weather man James Spann posted his saturday morning notes which included the seemingly innocent comment:

As for the snow issue, there will be multiple opportunities for snow or ice across parts of the southern U.S. during the next two weeks. I am still not ready to be specific, and I have not been specific in the past. It is just too early.

Things get started by the fifth comment when Shane asks:

Curious. When will you guys start adding a forecast note for those who aren’t snow fans?

Go ahead and bash away but I think it’s awfully slanted the way the 33/40 weather team leads the bandwagon for snow.

Oh no he didn't! Apparently this obvious flame could not go unanswered, for the very next comment goes straight for "if you don't like, don't read" and throws in a little (slightly confused) backhand with:

So the few that don’t like what they read need to simply “endure” the house is being keep or go visit someone that is more on there level.

A little mangled, but we get the idea... GTFO plebes!

Everyone rushes to congratulate this attack on the nay-sayer, including Kim Beasley who later tells us that she's so into honesty due to her days judging bauty pageants.

My mother always accused me of being too honest. I use tojudge bauty pageants and it came in real handy for those moms that wanted to make there children look like Elvira..lol. But I was told there was honesty and a way to have tack with my honesty. Since getting older I have had to try to learn to use tack but I find myself holding way back at times, to the point I feel as though I want to explode…lol.

But don't look now! Shane hasn't learned his lesson!

Yeah… Kim really put me in my place. This is not like going to someone’s home and complaining about thier decor. This is a public forum, right? My comments are not unlike someone who opens their house for public display and recieve criticism for the decor.

John Talbot is downright angry that people are bashing his weather team! In fact, he breaks out the bible to prove it.

The way I look at it , critisize is one thing ( IF the event does NOT occur after being stated . The key word is ‘after’) HOW-EVER , to bash him or any of the wx team before hand or after is just wrong . “Let he who is with out sin cast the first stone ” That is NO ONE that I know of.

Shane's not backing down...

Now why am I not surprised that all you snow bunny’s have banded together.

...

Kim, why do I end my post with “bash away”? Because anyone who speaks out against Spann or snow gets criticized and bashed for questioning things around here.

...

It’s nice to know that Spann is above reproach on this blog. It is his and he’s has surround himself with very dedicated and committed cheerleaders. You need to post a rule that comments contrary to what he says is strictly prohibited.

Not only did Kim judge those "bauty pageants" but she owns her own website, and gives a confused if heartfelt definition of what an IP address is, and how Shane should be glad he isn't blocked.

And to round things out, Jeff wants to know why Shane isn't outside having a LIFE if the weather is so great!

Somewhat disturbingly, just about every post mentioning snow has something like this happening in the comments. And with bad weather rolling in, it's likely to get worse... and worse...

UPDATE: As of this morning, the entire blog has been put on moderated status.

First off this morning… we have had to put all comments on “moderation”. This means someone will look at it before it is posted. During the last 24 hours, we have had to delete posts with profanity, racial slurs, personal attacks, and rambling messages nothing short of insanity. The sad part about this is that 90 percent of comments are excellent. So, we welcome your comments; they just won’t show up as soon as you post them. Might be a few minutes; might be over an hour. We are running 18 hour days here, and we will do the best we can to get the comments through. Sad we are having to do this; you might expect this kind of stuff on a political or sports blog… but one about weather????? Wow.

"Bash-Away" Shane says his "fond adue":

Well… I guess with moderation being put into place only positive comments will be allowed. Why not go ahead and make this a “members only” blog? It’s just one more case where you are isolating yourself further.

Best of luck, seeing that nobody will see this post, I bid you a fond adue (probably didn’t spell it right).

I've read through that like five times and I still can't figure out how the weather team "leads the bandwagon" for snow. If you live in a part of the world where [insert type of weather here] is rare, and you know it may be coming, why wouldn't you say, "Hey, the way things are looking, [x] may be happening in the next few weeks!"

I mean, if they thought there was going to be a plague of locusts coming through my area in the next few weeks, I'd like some advance warning on that one.

People in Kentucky freak if you breathe the word "snow." Schools close because of forecasts even if nothing comes, whole sections of the highways that pass through the state are shut down because of multiple accidents even when there's only been a light fluffy quarter-inch with no ice, and when the city of Louisville did get 16 inches in 1994, they couldn't use the snowplows to get rid of it because they had forgotten where the snowplows WERE. (That was the same day a major earthquake happened in California, and we didn't hear about it until noon because all the news stations were obsessed with "Winter Storm 94." Yes, they name them).

And yet, I can now be thankful I don't live in Alabama.

Sorry Alabama! All the sixty car pile-ups are meant for Detroit this week.

(and the snow just keeps falling, and falling...)

But I was told there was honesty and a way to have tack with my honesty. Since getting older I have had to try to learn to use tack but I find myself holding way back at times, to the point I feel as though I want to explode…lol.

Like ... sticky tack? "I will be honest! AND put up a poster at the same time!"

Birmingham, Alabama is a town that hasn't seen a good snow storm since the good ol' blizzard of '93, when everyone walked up-hill both ways for their milk and bread.

I lived in Birmingham for two years and I was never able to figure out what the hell y'all thought you were going do with all that milk and bread. Were you planning on riding out the massive 2 inch snowfall on a diet of mush?

It's not like the milk was going to last very long anyway, given that your city power system gets the vapors at the slightest hint of rain.

I'm so happy to be back in the Midwest. It's 8 degrees out, there's half a foot of snow on the ground, more in the forcast and everybody's like, "Jah, whatever. We just sent the kids out to play on the lake."
