A friend of mine once found a stray cat and her newborn kittens in her backyard. A few days later, the mama cat died. Leslie managed, through incredible dedication, to keep all four kittens alive through bottle feeding. One thing she also did was wear an older sports bra of hers and take turns nestling the baby cats in her (ample) cleavage -- because it was warm, and they could hear a heart beating, and it was as close as she could get to the kind of contact and nurtuing the mother cat would've given. It was very funny to come by and see her with a cat or two curled up in her shirt.

I can't say for sure that it helped them survive, but all of them went on to be healthy adult cats, so it couldn't hurt!

Uh, that entire story is just here to say, even though these photos are probably posed and cutesy, there can be good reasons for the cleavage-kitties.
