Crying out justice, but seeking out triumphs (iwanttobeasleep) wrote in [info]otf_wank,

You'll have to forgive me for this one, I didn't witness the commercial or the original site first hand, but it is too perfect.

During the Superbowl, Snickers airs a commercial in which two men accidentally kiss while eating a Snickers bar, and proceed to rip off pieces of chest hair to prove their straightness.

On their website (now removed) they have three other endings for viewers to vote on (one with the two men drinking motor oil and windshield wiper fluid, one with them beating each other up, and one with another man walking in and asking if there's "room for three in this Love Boat"), to be aired during a NASCAR event. They also had reactions of football players from the Colts and the Bears being disgusted and/or amused by the two men accidently kissing (which someone uploaded to YouTube, and the second part).

Naturally, GLAAD was pissed about the obvious/implied homophobia and raised enough noise to get them to take down the site. A popular liberal blog called for the members to spam Mars's (the parent company) with complaints, and a Portland Mercury blogger writes a response to say they're overreacting and misinterpreting.

There's wank in the article comments, there's wank in the YouTube comments, I honestly have no idea where to even start pulling choice wanky comments from.

It's already in the Wikipedia entry. I've got my fingers crossed for wank in the discussion.

Important related news: The Colts' head coach promoted a homophobic fund raiser.

Okay, maybe I'm just a big pinko left-wing dyke and my opinion in this matter doesn't count, but how is holding up a ridiculous overreaction to perceived gayness as something to be laughed at homophobic in the least? That's like calling a scene of a KKK member accidentally lighting his own bedsheet on fire during a cross-burning pro-racism. I feel like I'm the only gay left on the planet with any functional sense of context.

Best. Analogy. EVER.

I want to see that now. In color.
Not only a lovely analogy, but it would be even more funny.

So, no, you aren't alone. A lot of gays simply are a bit worried in general over all the "omg u sinner lol" stuff happening recently, so they jump at everything that looks bad.
I guess people overreact for any reason, regardless if they are gay, straight, christian, or pastafarian. It's human stupidity at its best.

Ha ha ha ha ha--that's brilliant! I can't help picturing the burning, flailing Nazgul set afire by Aragorn in FotR.

That's freakin' hysterical. You need to shop this idea around to different ad agencies.

I think I love you for that. Good job you're gay, otherwise my love would have to stay frustrated!

That would be an excellent commercial. For what, I don't know, but it would still be excellent.

Hey, I thought it was funny too. But GLAAD and I? We obviously exist on different planes of reality, and always have.

Exactly. I thought of it as mocking homophobia, not gay people. Clearly, I fail at being a dyke.

Oh, you're not alone.

It's just that the gay people who run the advocacy organizations have a stick up their ass.

Gay advocacy organizations are run by paladins?
