	No. You're far more VULNERABLE to being killed by a car when you're walking. You're not allowed to walk on the freeway just because you feel like it, either. Why? Because no matter how careful you think you are, you could still get killed. This is along the same lines. It's not about restricting your freedom; it's about safeguarding people's lives. Pointing out an error in your train of thoughts:

WHY could you get killed on a freeway if you walked around there? Because no matter how careful YOU are, if a careless driver runs you over, you have NO CHANCE.

Why could you get killed crossing the street? Because no matter how careful YOU are, if a careless driver doesn't give a fuck about the light, you have NO CHANCE. Regardless of whether your ipod is turned on or off as you do so.

WHY are you not supposed to use a cellphone in your car? Because you don't concentrate on driving (that's been proven in studies, as far as I know) when you do and could kill people. They didn't ban listening to the radio in your car.

I have yet to see anyone who's incapable of concentrating enough (while listening to music) to see whether the lights for pedestrians are on "walk" or "stop". And I bet that people who don't look left and right with their ipods on don't do it without, either.

You are completely missing the point.

It's fine that drivers aren't allowed to have a phone in their hand or eat when they drive here.

But that's because cars are big and fast enough to kill people. A car driver can't just stop and look around when in doubt. A pedestrian can.

And by the way, if people don't loook before they cross the street, hearing won't help them, either. Their own bloody fault then. Just as it is their fault when they get killed walking on the freeway. Doesn't mean there need to be laws for not listening to the cars.
