So a state senator in New York wants to ban using iPods while crossing city streets.

USA Today blogs about it. The comments section is a cesspool of wank, mostly of the righteous indignation kind. Watch how liberals are blamed for all society's ills! Marvel at how Darwin is misused over and over again! Gasp as accusations of communism are thrown around carelessly!

	So true! It always makes sense to fine the people who are visible(wearing ipods) instead of the ones actually causing the danger(car drivers who don't pay attention to traffic signs). Not to mention that the evil iPod-rays kill dozens of baby seals each hour. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Wow, is this really so hard to understand? The point isn't to limit your freedom. The point is to make sure you don't die while you're walking around. It might be very convenient for you to walk among the cars on the road, as well, but you're not allowed to do it. Why? Because you could get HIT BY A CAR. Just because pedestrains have the right of way doesn't mean we get to do whatever we want. It's called public safety, and it's the government's job to make new laws when a new safety issue presents itself. Are the laws supposed to stay the same forever, then?

Five'll get you ten the law is being considered because there've been people who HAVE been hit by cars in that situation, who've had the nerve to sue the city for big bucks.
