In Soviet New York, iPod bans you!
So a state senator in New York wants to ban using iPods while crossing city streets.

USA Today blogs about it. The comments section is a cesspool of wank, mostly of the righteous indignation kind. Watch how liberals are blamed for all society's ills! Marvel at how Darwin is misused over and over again! Gasp as accusations of communism are thrown around carelessly!

The stupid, it had to be shared.

ETA: BE MORE FUNNY, PEOPLE.

No, you can't. You can use a hands-free SPEAKER phone. But putting any kind of headphones on is absolutely forbidden, and any cop will stop you for it and give you a hefty fine. A friend of mine got popped for wearing a headset while driving, and she bitched mightily about it. I replied, "It's been illegal for YEARS. You broke the law. Suck it up, be an adult and pay the fine."

Was honestly surprised, fellow anonymouse. If one of my friends had something sucky happen, my first reaction wouldn't be "haha you totally deserved it."

I agree with the whole "break the law you pay" thing. But I'm not so sure about the cell phone deal. I haven't lived in CA for almost a year, having moved to TX. But over Christmas break I went home and the issue came up with my parents. Both of their jobs require them to have a cell phone on hand when driving (not Mom so much these days but my Dad still does).

So the issue came up and my parents are pretty damn great at being law abiding citizens. According to them however, they could/can still use their cell's while driving just so long as it's a hands free situation.

As I said though, I haven't lived in CA for nearly a year. I haven't read the law to which this issue applies and am instead going by what good ol' Ma and Pa have imparted. It just seems to me that for such a tech savvy state that CA would become rather limiting over a cell phone.

Well, law against cellphones in cars doesn't take affect until next year, so holding the phone is still okay.

Wow, did you ever consider reading a law before spouting off?
The law about headphones is that they can't cover BOTH ears, and if you've ever looked at any cel phone headsets you may have noticed that they cover ONE ear.
Trust me, it's not a coincidence.
