In [info]washingtondc, they don't wank about politics. Instead, like every other "city" community on lj I mean you, [info]seattle, they wank about snow.

A quick recap:

"You people in DC don't know snow like I know snow! This isn't snow!"

"I have nothing clever to say, so I am going to attempt to be snarky by handing you a cookie."

"Salting the roads every time they say it's going to snow isn't exactly feasible." "Yeah, well, it would save lives!"

"What's KC?" "OMG YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE KC IS YOU MUST BE RETARDED."

Can't they just enjoy the snow day? Oh, that's right . . . enjoying the snow means you haven't grown up yet.

Methinks someone took a leak in [info]flairness's Cheerios this morning.

ETA: Aww, Bonus wank in stupid_free!

Please explain the concept of snow to the poor boy who lives in a part of the world where those sorts of things don't exist. I understand that it has something to do with a "season" called "winter" (both of which are also non-existent where I come from), but I've seen them in my travels.

Snow (n): White, wet stuff falling from the sky. Not to be confused with rain or bird shit. Cold, gathers on the ground, and like the internet, turns people into complete asshats.

Yay wordplay for cutting to the heart of it:
My recommendation: find a good sledding hill. The ice gets really fast after the first few passes. You'll feel better.

I'm not precisely complaining about it, but we got snow. A whole fuck load of snow. There's a snowdrift in the back yard which is taller than I am... actually, it's taller than my boyfriend too, and he's 6'0. The dog was hilarious...

Dog: Need to *pee*.
Me: You don't want to go out there.
Dog: NEED TO PEE.
Me: I warned you... *stands at the door with her arms crossed*
Dog: There's... snow... EVERYWHERE! *pees in the remotest corner possible considering there's about two square feet of space outside the back door* LET ME IN!
Me: Told you.

(The me part was spoken out loud. Yes, I am nuts. I talk to the dog, and inanimate objects.)

Yesterday, now, yesterday people were being wimpy. The snow we got in the afternoon/overnight... made things worse.

If this had happened when I first came to DC, I might have been surprised. But in the last few months, I've seen Georgetown plow half an inch of snow off the sidewalks with golf carts and put down enough salt to make the entire campus look like it's been hit by a cocaine blizzard after the snow melted. Now I half expect the school to close whenever something falls out of the sky...

... and I love it. I just wish that there really was enough snow to go sledding.

Heh, I've got news for some of these people - salting the roads 12 hours prior to a storm is akin to an emo kid sticking a band aid on his wrist before the first cut. Sure, a nice precautionary measure, but one that's ultimately futile after prolonged exposure.

Salting several hours before the snow here sure as hell didn't do anything once we passed the first foot. Nor did the 3-4 saltings have much effect on the 2 inches of ice Erie dumped on us eight hours later. Mother Nature always has the last laugh. Suck it up, D.C.

*Sigh*

Things like this make me glad I live in a state where we actually expect large amounts of snow and prepare for it. Not that we don't have problems with the asshat drivers who think a blizzard is no excuse not to exceed the speed limit, but at least people don't whine about it.

What amuses me about snow wank is that it's never about the 24inches that some places got. It's always about 2 inches. Or 4.

The reason behind this? Those of whose who got buried yesterday and last night are out shovelling because we know that even though everything is closed today, tomorrow, everything will be open, and we've got to go out.

I'm sorry, it wasn't snow...it was sleet and freezing rain. A few inches of ice on the ground, oh yeah. Let me tell you, though. The ice off of the roads were shoveled ONTO the sidewalks, making walking a bitch, especially in Georgetown.

Of course it wasn't snow. We didn't even get a day off. Fuckers.

Still, she should explain why I got two bootfuls of snow within five minutes of stepping out the door if it wasn't snow. My shoes didn't even have time to dry before it was time to go home again (fuckers).

You know I'm from Western New York right smack dab between two lakes and heaven help me if when people bitch about it being cold and how dangerous snow is when all they've gotten all year is a measley four inches I laugh hysterically and walk away, damn right I'm a snow elitist. Just like I won't compete with people from Southern states on humid heat or people from California on Earthquakes and brush fires and mudslides (both of which scare the PISS out of me) but frankly can't people just shut the fuck up and enjoy the snow day? I did by sitting on my ass in front of the heater.

Now here's my thoughts on yaoi, ack that was wanky *cleans up*.

Is this the part where I'm supposed to grumble about living in a place where you don't get snow days?

-32 C? Go to work. As much snow as you usually get during the entire winter suddenly falls in one day? Go to work. *grumbles*

The closest I've ever had to a snow day was back in school where if it was colder than -15 C the teachers couldn't force you to go skiing in gym class and if it was colder than -20 C you were allowed to stay inside during recess.
