Amazon Wank
So it seems that before Christmas Amazon had a DVD offer on boxsets - buy one get one free. Except they made a bit of a mistake and the lowest item was actually taken off twice. This resulted in, if you had two items of the same price, free DVDs.

As will happen people took advantage of this and people discussed whether that was ethical.

Skip forward to December 28th, and Amazon finally realises their error. All customers affected are asked to either return the boxsets unopened, or their credit cards will be charged the total price.

Aaaaand wank results People ask whether it's legal. Some people ring Amazon to complain. And some people sit proclaiming that it's all perfectly fine and serves folk right for taking advantage of it.

And Amazon actually has been great about honouring mislabelled products. Everyone who pre-ordered the $80+ Absolute Sandman when it was labelled $14.99 got it for that price. Mind, it might have been a better move to offer those affected x% off their next purchase for the inconvenience - soothe public opinion and still get some extra money off another purchase that might otherwise not have been made.

Not everyone. When they realized their mistake they canceled my Sandman order and offered to re-order it for me at the correct price.

They'll do that if they haven't shipped it and thus charged you. At that point, you've not yet bought it, just requested that they sell it to you.

Ah - cancel my praise for Amazon, then. I was just going by what had been said in Neil Gaiman's blog.

Wait, wait. Do you think when Stargate Atlantis season 1 was being sold for $15 that was a mistake? Because I just thought it was a GREAT deal and I bought one for my brother and one for me.

I don't think that was a mistake. I'm a boxset addict, and I've noticed Amazon.com likes to price the first season of shows that have a handful of seasons out behind it really really low, presumably to entice people into buying them, getting addicted, and buying the latter ones at full, or close to full price.

Naw. I've picked up 24 S1, King of the Hill S1, and Angel S1 for fifteen bucks from them at various times. (And the original X-Files S1 for thirty bucks!)
