Amazon Wank
So it seems that before Christmas Amazon had a DVD offer on boxsets - buy one get one free. Except they made a bit of a mistake and the lowest item was actually taken off twice. This resulted in, if you had two items of the same price, free DVDs.

As will happen people took advantage of this and people discussed whether that was ethical.

Skip forward to December 28th, and Amazon finally realises their error. All customers affected are asked to either return the boxsets unopened, or their credit cards will be charged the total price.

Aaaaand wank results People ask whether it's legal. Some people ring Amazon to complain. And some people sit proclaiming that it's all perfectly fine and serves folk right for taking advantage of it.

Pity that's not what happened on Amazon, ain't it?

Yeah, it's absolutely awesome what not having a counter and a friendly cashier when you're selling your stuff can do to your shop. Seems it also frees you from the consequences of your own mistakes.

Er, I fail to see how a computer error is any different than say, a register ringing up something wrong and the cashier not noticing, albeit on a much larger scale. It's no different than having a cashier that's a little sleepy and didn't notice that three sets shouldn't cost $50, except that Amazon.com keeps records so they can stop people from taking advantage of them.

Never said it was. Whether amazon messed up the programming or their register, it doesn't matter. They just don't even have to worry about messing up your "register" and then have to deal with the consequences like everyone else does. You can go trace the customers because you have all their adresses and credit card numbers and everything recorded. It IS amazing what changes just doing internet business does, or do you disagree? Whether that's good or bad (and for who) is debatable. Did you see me say anywhere "Amazon sucks for that" or "the customers were so right"?

Yours and the previous commenters reactions are amazing. :)

PS: Won't be here any time soon (like... a couple of months, actually), so I can't get your reply, but I realize that my first comment could be misunderstood, if you're on the lookout for anti-amazon comments. I should just have added a line like:

"No, I'll keep it. Kthxbye2you2."

I'm a beginner at the whole wank thing. ;) Let's not start wank here, okay? To say it bluntly: I think both sides deserve their bit of mockery. And my whole thing about how it is amazing is meant literally. Internet changes a lot, despite of people keep saying it's not serious business (it's not too often serious business, though).

After reading more of the thread (and inevitably your comments) before I leave... you're quite a wanker yourself, it seems? If that's not your intention, watch out. :D

This comment is funny, probably for none of the reasons you intended.
