Amazon Wank
So it seems that before Christmas Amazon had a DVD offer on boxsets - buy one get one free. Except they made a bit of a mistake and the lowest item was actually taken off twice. This resulted in, if you had two items of the same price, free DVDs.

As will happen people took advantage of this and people discussed whether that was ethical.

Skip forward to December 28th, and Amazon finally realises their error. All customers affected are asked to either return the boxsets unopened, or their credit cards will be charged the total price.

Aaaaand wank results People ask whether it's legal. Some people ring Amazon to complain. And some people sit proclaiming that it's all perfectly fine and serves folk right for taking advantage of it.

I think the implication was that the mousie would get around Amazon trying to charge them for the extra DVD sets by getting a new card, thereby rendering the card number that Amazon has on record null and void.

Mmm... you might be right. I had not considered that level of galactic stupidity, but I think that you might have hit the nail on the head. :)

Possibly also implying that when Amazon requested their money back, the card holder could then claim the boxsets were ordered by whoever 'found' the card. Which is also pretty fucking stupid, but hey.

By a horrendously stupid credit card thief who had all the box sets sent to the original cardholder's address, even!

Sadly, fandom_wank has taught me some people really are that dumb. :(

Everytime I've had my card stolen all the charges get rolled onto the new card and I would have to contest them to get them removed. So I am thinking it wouldn't work so well.

Not to mention that Amazon does have name, address, and telephone number on record, so unless changing it means the old one is completely obliterated, they can still sic people on you.

You know, I would love to be working in their collections department* right now. I want to be That Person who finds the stupid people and tells them they're stupid. I want to shout "FOOL! YOU CANNOT HIDE FROM THE ALMIGHTY AMAZON-DOT-COM. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" And then screw up their credit. Because I'm just a bitch like that.

*I'm sure Amazon has another company that handles collections. You know what I mean.
