[info]kitsunegari posts to [info]stupid_free about Britney Spears shaving her head. The resulting wank has nothing to do with the subject matter, but the fact that she signs her posts. (Small but spirited.)

I think it's because signing your posts is a combination of the sparkly and the pretentious, AND it's repetitive, so it's constantly in your face, AND it's on most people's dumbass filters, AND to add insult to injury, it's something that was originally supposed to be for the benefit of the reader, so you're getting all this annoying crap on your screen for your own good. (Or else you'll forget whose comment you were reading, of course.) Plus the "free speech" defense usually gets hauled out in the first couple of rounds, and that always kicks the wank up a notch.

So. No one good reason, just a bunch of little reasons.
