Things Get Shirty on Stupid_Free
... when a post about an 18 year old trying to get pregnant with her 28 year old fiance hits the comm. Cue lots and lots and LOTS of offensive and defensive wank about teenage pregnancy and/or marriage and/or age differences in relationships, with some squicky/hilarious/startlingly-thoughtful results.

This thread, featuring a man who met and was attracted to his girlfriend when she was 13 is especially creepy. We get aaaaaaaaall the interesting ones of LJ, donchaknow!

As for the 13-year-old - well, some people that young do look/act older. The "5 years of menstruation" was a big clue that she probably did look more like 18 than 13. But for chrissakes, leave them alone until they're of age. Otherwise, (general) you are an idiot.

Totally agreed there. Especially if they wear the right makeup and clothing. I remember being thirteen at a birthday party at Red Lobster for a family friend. I was wearing a dress pants/shell/blazer combo, had my hair done up, and wore lipstick, powder, and blush.

I was offered wine and had to turn it down. The waitress just about dropped her drink tray when I told her how old I was.

Somebody thought I was my father's *wife* when I was 13, and I wasn't even dressed up. Granted, it was some asshole screaming out of his car at us because dad honked when the guy tried to cut us off, but still.

We just had a news-case here in Austria, that an 11-year old recently got an abortion, and they had to DNA-check the fetus to find out which of 3 possible guys was the father (2 of them 16, one 28 [I think, around that, anyway]). The hospital had to report it (tho the girl did tell them it wasn't rape).

There was a comment, I think from one of the involved police officers, that the girl does look like 16 and talk like she was 20.

I don't think there has been follow-up yet (the 3 men are possibly facing charges).

When I was 13, I had experiences ranging from people mistaking me for a professor at the university where my mother taught to thinking that I was the mother of my 6 year old brother.

I got that a lot about my baby brother. And when I was 16 I was mistaken for my 9-year-old sister's mother. The guy who made the mistake didn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box, but still.
