Bad service in the ER?
[info]traumawolfe posts a list of Rules of the ER in [info]customers_suck. Complaints start at the first comment, where it is pointed out that s/he ripped off the list from another site. People also point out, at various points and in various ways, that some of the demands/complaints are irrational. Many personal anecdotes are invoked on both sides and I learn more about hemorrhoids than I wanted to.

Others defend the OP and there is discussion of exactly how bitchy a patient is allowed to be.

Eventually, the OP deletes her journal, but the post remains.

[info]stella4809 makes an off-topic post over here and people complain there as well.

Bonus mini-cf wank.

We all came out of a "stretched out bloody vag". This includes you. (Unless you were delivered by c-section, obviously.)

as to answer the rest of your questions, while i do think that my mother would be in a better economic position had she not had me, she sees her life as better with children in it. personally, i think the planet would be better if humans (yes, including me and you) were extinct.

Oh, [info]leer again.

She could do us all a favor and be the first to kill herself, then.

I dunno, I kinda agree with her. Being in labour is no reason to be a shithead to medical staff. My mother's an obstetrics RN, been one for thirty years, and she'll walk out on a patient if they swear at her (I mean, as long as walking out on them isn't going to actually threaten their wellbeing, naturally). Just because precious baby mommy has a head coming out of her vagina doesn't mean she gets to be a rude pissant to someone who's just trying to do their job.

Of course, I'd have said that without the "moo" bullshit.

Depends on the situation, I think. Are they being rude because they're in so much agony they have to channel it somehow to keep focused, or are they being rude in the early stages simply because they feel entitled as such? I might get frustrated, but I'd be rather disinclined to walk out on a mother screaming obscentities at everybody and everything in the middle of labor, since it's obviously not meant personally.

Yeah, I think the hospital staff forgave my mother for screaming for her "goddamn epidural" when she came in because she'd already been in labor at home for 12 hours before the midwife went "you know what? I have admitting privileges at SF General. We're going to the hospital."

(I was a transverse arrest - that is, my head was facing the right way, but I hadn't rolled over all the way and my shoulders were vertical instead of horizontal, and I basically dug them into my mother's pelvis and refused to leave. They eventually had to yank me out with forceps (which the OB/GYN called "the salad tongs").

It's generally entitlement, I'm thinking. She gets alot of "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M GOING THROUGH YOU BITCH!" which really pisses her off because a) she's been doing this job a long damn time and b) she's had three kids herself.

Mum doesn't see pain as a reason for disrespect. She sees it as harassment, and treats it as such. When you're in pain, you can scream things other than obscenities if you really need to scream, although she thinks most of that is just theatrics, as well, considering half these screaming, swearing women are on enough drugs they shouldn't be feeling anything.

But like I've said, she's been doing the job a long damn time. She knows when it's urgent, and when it's bullshit. This isn't to say she's not empathetic with her patients. She's sided with women when doctors have dismissed them, because she respects their intuitions and knowledge as mothers. She just doesn't think that when you're twenty minutes into your labour, you have any right to be calling her a whore or whatever.

I agree with your mom....

I had my first baby in November, and didn't get an epidural 'til the very end of my labor (as I was having my baby induced due to complications, and just didn't want to risk giving her any more trouble). I went drug-free long enough that my doctor made a special trip into my room to lecture me on how stubborn I was being for not getting the epidural.

Still, the whole time, I just grit my teeth through the pain (damn, during a contraction, who really wants to talk to people anyway?!) and avoided taking it out on any innocent bystanders. I continued making jokes with the nurses in between contractions, including during other not-so-fun procedures.

I don't think I'm anything special...I think those morons screaming at medical staff are the "special" ones. There is no reason to be that much of an ass. Period. I don't even care if you want to scream obscenities ("Goddammit this hurrrrrrrts!), but to scream them at people...no. That just makes you a jerk.

Favorite quote: all i meant was, if you choose to have a kid, you should be aware that shoving the babies head out from between your legs is going to be painful.

I so totally agree, man. I mean, shoving your head that far up your rectum has got to have some painful effects, so we'll all just stand back and go, "Hey, dude, life choices."
