Lazy Cripples and the Workers Who Hate Them
[info]juniorfan29 oh-so-innocently bitches in [info]customers_suck about people who have the gall to shop in wheelchairs without planning ahead. Or bringing along a hired nurse. [info]shadowsync, meanwhile, doesn't know why they have such trouble; as long as the handicapped belong to a church and have the internet, things are taken care of since they all have good health insurance. [info]zannechaos is trying to pin the blame on the liability issue and is less insulting about it than the OP, but doesn't stay out of the Trenton Tarpits of Wank by any means. [info]angriestgirl, in a fit of pique, declares that she has "lost interest in this little cockfight already," but comments not two minutes later about slang being invalid in text.

In case it gets deleted: Dear lady in a wheelchair:

If you are going to be out shopping, then you either need to be able to get yourself in and out of your wheelchair, or you need to bring someone along with you that can help you. Luckily you were able to find another stupid and guillible customer to help you today, because although one of our employees was stupid enough to help you the other day...we WILL NOT be helping you in and out of your car/wheelchair any longer.

No love,
juniorfan29

I wouldn't be stupid enough to not make arrangements for someone to help me, rather than assume that the employees of a store are going to risk a lawsuit to come out and put me in a wheelchair.

I'd post it to clairvoyant, but I don't have to lick a wall socket to know it'll hurt, and neither do I have to wonder if this is going to turn into a screaming, frothy, Santorum-laden mess in about an hour. (ETA: And gosh, look at that! Didn't even take that long.)

ETA: Dang, bahleeted. And just when we were getting to the funny parts - the flouncing, the grammar wank, the "you don't know the history of nursing! I do!" wank. Rats.

Ah, [info]juniorfan29, as if we had any remaining doubts that you are, in fact, an idiot. Not only are you a raving homophobe, you also think the disabled are out to make your life harder for you. Aww. Poor thing.

Along with the able-bodied entitled who take up the disabled parking spaces for their own convenience, may she, too, one day know all the wonders of being in a wheelchair -- having to navigate narrow, cramped aisles, having to rely on kind strangers to get products off too-high shelves, hoping that you'll be able to get into the building once you get there, having people assume that being in a wheelchair means you're also mentally deficient.

I hate that fat, Nascar-obsessed bitch. Is there no-one she doesn't hate?

If she were any more close-minded, I bet her head would cave in.

I’m too lazy to go and actually find it, but there was a study that stated that the majority of people who parked in disabled and family bays had a criminal record. It kind of makes you look at people differently. Whenever I see someone doing it, I now think, ‘What crime were you put away for?’ Cheers me up no end.

Knowing that removes the last bit of guilt I had about imagining those people getting into gory, debilitating accidents.

You want to park in the disabled parking spots? Come over here -- my baseball bat and I will be more than happy to make that dream come true!

TRUFAX! I hawked the biggest ball of phlegm into the front seat of a convertible after watching the driver pull up, radio blaring, and park in a handicapped space.

Although in retrospect, it's obvious to me that the reason he had a red convertible in the first place is because he was handicapped below the belt. So maybe I should feel sorta bad about doing it. yeah, right

I am just *waiting* for someone to see me get out of my car and challenge me on my permit. Thankfully, my legs say I can walk once again - but my heart says "nu-uh, bitch, that extra ten feet would cost you more than you know..."

I'm glad your legs are behaving! Listen to your heart, though -- it doesn't lie about those things.

My mom survived polio, so I grew up helping her. When she could walk unaided, she still often fell; sometimes she sprained things, sometimes she broke things but either way, it meant I was in charge for a while. When she started on crutches, I had to be on constant lookout for potential tripping hazards. When she had to start using the wheelchair, I learned to evaluate the layouts of shops, size doorways and judge inclines.

People treat her like she's deaf or stupid because of the chair. I actually started crying one day at lunch because our waitress was the first person all day to speak to her like the competent, intelligent adult that she is. It makes me so angry sometimes.

In a way, though, it's easier for her to have a visible disability -- people don't give her crap like challenging her permit. You have my sympathy for having to deal with mobility issues and nosy, ill-informed morons.

I'm unbelievably thrilled. The circulation issues during the day have calmed down quite a bit, and I got the stitches out of my toe for what we believe will be the last time. In a way, I was dreading not needing the cane - because I knew the death glares would come, and my heart's lack of structural integrity is not public business just because I get a better space.

Though I'm already preparing a mini-speech. After I'm done with them, anyone who dares challenge me is going to be so depressed and angry with themselves, they'll need to seek counseling.

I sometimes park in the handicapped space when I forget my dad's sign and have him with me, but he's blind so I think that counts.

I just don't get why the extra ten feet matter so much for people. Dude, half the time it's not even raining.

In my case, I have a heart condition. In the store I can use the little go-cart if I get tired and I tend to limit my movements while shopping - but outside, there have been days where not having to walk an extra ten feet to sit in the car and catch my breath is an absolute godsend.

Of course, since I don't have a visible disability since my foot got better, I'm expecting any day to get yelled at for not looking disabled.

Probably, yes. People always know so well what other people are going through.
