If You Laugh at the Cat, the Terrorists Have Won.
ICanHasCheezburger? is a blog of funny animal macros, mostly of cats, but sometimes gerbils, bunnies, dogs and monkeys, too. By "macro," I mean "a picture with a hilariously anthropomorphic saying on it," usually in child-like 'netspeak to add to the cuteness.

A couple of days ago, cheezburger posted this macro of a Siamese cat, ostensibly after having eaten something very sour, with the caption "ME NO RIKE REMONADE." Cue fan, which the shit hit immediately. 632 comments later...

Accusations range from "racist!" to many, many tl;dr essays, yes, essays in the comments, most of them preceded with the disclaimer/qualifier, "Well, I am [insert ethnicity here], so..." Dreama explains for us plebes that the macro is inexcusably racist which causes other members to suggest that she change her user handle to "Drama" (hee!). Jimmy compares the macro to the Japanese internment camps of WW2, which causes a LOT of people to go all "Bitch, are you for real?" The comments are the straw on the proverbial camel for Ben, who declares, "I am just waiting for the asteroid to come and kill the rest of you." rubbr tries and fails to be the voice of reason: "...it's only a picture of a cat..." Squalo says that if you're complaining about this and not doing something about the terrorists, you should be ashamed of yourself!11!1!!1

All I could think was: "Aww. Siamese kitties have the CUTEST meows."

God yeah, gorgeous animal, horrendous yowls. Drive me crazy, if it wasn't for that, and yeah their almost suicidal desire to explore EVERYTHING in the house and outside, I'd have gotten one.

But instead got myself a ragdoll.

I've got a Colorpoint Shorthair, very similar breed to a Siamese, same yowl. I think it's cute, especially since she seems to have to rev up the yowl most of the time. "rrr. rrrrRRR. Rrra. RRRAAAAAAOOOOWWW!!!"

Hee! I have the chocolate point in my icon, and I used to have a half-siamese half-persian, who took the two worse qualities of his breeds - the volume of the siamese miow and the length of the persian - and combined them into one long noisy wretched wreck of a yowl. :/

My cat revs up to a meow too, and she's just a regular silver-tabby moggie with ginger dabs here and there.

TRUFAX.

Neither of my two current Siamese talked at all until we got a non-Siamese kitten, who talks incessantly. Now they all howl or trill or whinge about everything, especially when they think they need to be fed (approximately every two hours).

*snort* Opinionated is telling me that I've closed the balcony door when it should be open. Waiting until my roommate has left and I've gotten out of bed to tell me that they're starving, starving like little kids in Africa zomg, even though my roommate feeds them before she leaves in the morning? That's just sneaky and evil.

I have yet to own a cat who isn't starving half the time.

I don't think they understand the concept of full.

I used to have a half-Siamese before I became violently allergic to cats :( And I used to think her, um, vocalizing was hilarious.

You suddenly became allergic?

I thought allergies to cats were always there? *curious*

I think they can develop, like allergies to many other things. My mom had cats all her life until she became allergic in her 40's. I became allergic to sulfa antibiotics after using them twice previously to no ill effect.

Allergies are weird. :\

What jezepuff said :) I developed the allergy, or rather, noticed it, in my early 20s. It's a shame; I LOVE them.

No, they can definitely develop. I grew up with cats and dogs, and was fine-- till I adopted a Persian. I'm still only allergic to two of my three cats, but I've become highly allergic to most dogs.

I actually like Siamese meows. I might not, however, think highly of them if I owned a particularly talkative one that felt the need to talk at all hours of the night, but... I like them. *is weird* ;)

I once had a tabby cat that had the funniest meow. No one could figure out why Singer "sang". But then we watched That Darn Cat and there's a part where the titular cat is at the bottom of some stairs, meowing loudly, and we were all "Singer!"

So we presume that Singer was part Siamese.

When I moved in with my current roommate, she had a Siamese. I grew up with regular (read: mutt) cats, and the first time I heard him give a full-throated yowl, I thought he'd hurt himself because he sounded just like one of our cats in distress. I got used to it - really, you have to - but that first time gave me quite a turn.

That's like saying that toys and books that talk/make noise are perfect for young kids. Which is to say, perfect if you only spend five hours with them every two weeks. *hates talking toys*

WORD. My cat was a Siamese/"Whatever punk cat was running around the neighborhood that night" mix, and he more than got his momma's meow for all he did not get the coloring (but he was pure black and had amber eyes and Siamese shape).

"Cute" was NOT the word I would use.

They so do! *misses the hell out of her part-Siamese tabby. We got a kitten a couple of years ago that we *thought* was a Siamese mix, but he's actually a Raggie - fluffly and adorable, but no yowl. : (*

Ugh, I remember those days. Thankfully my siamese is getting on in years, and now the only way he wakes me up in the night is by managing to kick me out of my own bed, the furry pillow-hogging bastard. *g*
