no fatties
In stupid_free, there's a post about a girl who is 5'4" and 90lbs, fishing for compliments in ask_me_anything.

[info]isolationista: There's really nothing wrong with preferring to be skinny.
[info]jade_faith: They also said there was nothing wrong with antidepressants, until the suicides started popping up.

And they're off! Look out for [info]blasphemae implying that "underweight!=skinny". And then "underweight=skinny", a few posts later!

Please, no fatbashing.

May I take a moment to point out to all doctors that your patient answering the question:

"Are you satisfied with your body weight?"

with:

"No, I think I'm too thin."

is not, actually, indicative of anorexia.

Also, when you tell them that you keep losing weight no matter what you do, and you think you're too thin, being told, "I wish I had that problem," is also not helpful?

And when you tell them that the problem is chronic nausea, the correct response is not "Hah, right - you're a skinny young girl, so you obviously have an eating disorder and are lying to cover it up! We're going to put you in an institution and force-feed you until you're sick!"

I hate the medical industry so much.

Awesome story about asshat doctors! I won't go into why I was rapidly losing weight, because it involves bodily functions and is icky, but suffice it to say that I was very sick. I pointed out to my doctor how much I had lost (I'm a fatty, btw) and he said "Well, why do you want to get better, then? Sounds like it's working as a very good diet plan!"

... got a new doctor, STAT.

Ooh! Embarrassing anecdote time! [ignores groans]

I'd been suffering from terrible bloating and stomach pains so I went to the doctor. I complained to him how bloated I would get, that it was ridiculous, and I lifted my shirt and showed him. Now, I'm 5'6" and 119 pounds (168cm and 64kg for those in the metric) and a regular size (about Kate Winslet size) so he just took one look at my stomach like I was nuts and went "Huh?"

"Look! Look at that! My stomach looks huge! I look pregnant!"

"... Looks perfectly normal to me."

"It's not, trust me, it's not! I'm much thinner than this usually!"

It was at that moment that I realised I'd probably come off as just a leeeetle neurotic. But then again, I have a better idea of what my midriff usually looks like than my doctor does.
