Help, help, I'm being oppressed!
CuteOverload is known for being one of the wankiest places on the internet. Something about adorable animals just drags out the wankers in full force.

A picture is posted of a cat and baby together. Someone apparently childfree feels the need to comment, Ugh! Cute ruined by a sproglet! Ahhhhh!

Naturally, all Hell breaks loose. Forward fly accusations that the baby is ugly, CFers are heartless, and that everyone, on both sides, is being oppressed.

Of course, it's possible to argue that the comments wouldn't have escalated if if it hadn't also been posted to cf_hardcore.

Where's the "IT IS A DAILY STRUGGLE BEING CHILDFREE" icon when you need it?

Hm, anybody get the feeling some of those saying "poor kitty" just say it to make it look like they have a leg to stand on? So if someone points out how batshitty they sound for not being able to handle a PICTURE, they can scream "I'm worried about the kittehs!"

Because, you know, it's not like cats just get up and move when they're annoyed. And I'm still loving how everyone treats CuteOverload like it's a community and not a personal journal.

Especially because it's not like a baby that young can restrain a cat anyways. I even have doubts whether that kid would even be able to twist a cat's ear like one of them claims.

But then, I don't expect CFers to have a grasp on child development anyways...

What is wrong with these people? How do they function in society without throwing a tantrum whenever they see a toddler in their local supermarket, or a crying baby on a bus? They act like they never see kids elsewhere, as if the net was the only place 'infested with sproglets'.

Sorry. *Mops up*

My theory is that these people never leave the house...

Aspirin, closed eyes, counting to ten, and lots of muttering under one's breath.
Hey.

We really must be looking at different pictures. Kitty looks pretty comfortable to me; in my experience cats don't lie that close to teeny kids unless they're willing to be drooled and tugged on a bit.

(A friend of mine has a cat who absolutely adores human babies. When her weester was an infant, he turned into a little watchcat, guarding the nursery against intruders. I maintain my stance that humans are clearly not the only species prone to a little interspecies baby adulation.)

My disabled nephew was the favourite cuddle-bun of the offspring of my sister's cats, Lennon (my boy) and Sebastian. We have a photo of the both of them sandwiching him on his special mattress-y chair looking absolutely happy as clams. Cats just love Johnny. (Probably cause he doesn't bother them! LOL).

Point being - cats can be really fantastic with kids.

I love how all the breeders come out of the woodwork to bingo those who can't stand to see nasty drooling bologna loaf sprogs on what's supposed to be a CUTE site.

Wow. How CFers ever got such a bad rep is beyond me. Really.

And, you know, not like a CFer started the whole argument in that post or anything. Except, wait, they did.

How the hell has Meg resisted the temptation to Internet Bitchslap these people? If it were me, I'd probably put up a big picture of the most adorable baby in the world, and the caption:

I PAY FOR THE WEBSITE. I CHOOSE THE PICTURES.

EITHER LOVE ME AND DESPAIR, OR PISS OFF.

The most adorable baby in the world, by the way, is the baby girl I saw at work the other day. She was sitting in her stroller chewing on her shoe while her parents asked me the way to Old Navy. Her mother was this tiny little Asian woman and her father was this enormous black guy, and somehow the result was the most incredibly beautiful baby I have ever seen in my life. She smiled and waved back when I smiled and waved at her. She was the kind of baby that makes your biological clock want to explode. Like when you see a neighbour's kitten and go "OMG I WANT ONE."

Ok....you post this ugly picture of an ugly baby but I send in pictures of my finches cuddling multiple times and you totally ignore them.

Because your finches are ugly, Jessica.

BAHAHAHAHA! I love it. I'm going to use it a million times. "Because your finches are ugly, Jessica" = new all-purpose comeback, replacing "But you are, Blanche, you are!"

Did something go wrong in the evolution of the batshit childfree? I'm pretty sure the main reason humans have a 'cute response' in our brains is so we'll take care of children, thus enabling the survival of the species. I can understand people who make the decision "children just aren't for me," but how did the batshit childfree overcome their brain's hardwiring to find human infants cute, yet they still remain attracted to other animal babies?
On the other hand, if evolution still works, then there should be no more batshit childfree people in a hundred years.

Well, "childfree" in essence means they won't be passing on their genes, so actually, I'd call it a triumph of evolution.

Their rage response trumps their cute response. They're so invested in the idea that Society is trying to force them to have babies that the mere sight of a baby feels like an assault. Their issues make all babies hideous to them. Hardwiring or not, though, not everybody has the same response to babies. I'm a non-batshit childfree myself, and while I'm not repulsed by babies, I just don't have an OMGSOCUTE!!1! response to them. I'll squee like crazy over kittens and cats, though. And goats! Squee is an individual matter, I guess.

Well, while not childfree, I like puppies and kittens and so forth, but don't find infants cute. Toddlers, kinda; infants, no.

It's something about the baldness, I think.

My husband and I were discussing this very thing during lunch today.

Considering how amazingly selfish, self-centered and unhinged so many of the batshit CFs are, I think Nature('Mother Nature, that moo bitch!', as they'd say) blessed us all in their not wanting to pass on their genes.

'Error: This model exhibits none of the required traits for healthy continuation of the species. Please initiate end-of-the-genetic-road sequence now.'

I couldn't have kids even if I wanted to -- does that mean I get to be OMGOPRESSEDZ!1!, too? Or is that just for the Speshul Snowflakes who do it voluntarily?
or maybe I'm too sane to qualify?

OK, I don't have kids. I don't plan on having them in the future. I would even go so far as to say that I am not overly fond of children in general. But that is just about the CUTEST goddamn baby I have ever seen. Anyone who can look at the sheer joy on that kid's face and find something to bitch about is just plain defective and should be immediately returned to his or her manufacturer for replacement.
