Help, help, I'm being oppressed!
CuteOverload is known for being one of the wankiest places on the internet. Something about adorable animals just drags out the wankers in full force.

A picture is posted of a cat and baby together. Someone apparently childfree feels the need to comment, Ugh! Cute ruined by a sproglet! Ahhhhh!

Naturally, all Hell breaks loose. Forward fly accusations that the baby is ugly, CFers are heartless, and that everyone, on both sides, is being oppressed.

Of course, it's possible to argue that the comments wouldn't have escalated if if it hadn't also been posted to cf_hardcore.

Where's the "IT IS A DAILY STRUGGLE BEING CHILDFREE" icon when you need it?

The cat we had when my son was born was a very patient and protective kitty. Once he reckoned Boychild had reached the age where he could learn, Simba started "correcting" him when he'd get too rough - first, with a gentle tap of the paw, then a less gentle one, and finally, just enough claw to make his point. I think he thought Boychild was his kitten.

My mom had a cat like that when I was born. She let me (the cat, though Mom didn't interfere either) dress her up in doll clothes when I must have been too small not to pull on her legs--I don't remember it but we have pictures--but I do remember the snarl and hard nip when I got old enough to know better but pulled her tail anyway.

It's especially remarkable when male cats get all maternal like that, since in the wild they, you know, kill other toms' kittens. I wonder whether it's neutering or pet socialization.
