When Captain Screamy meets Dr. Loud Bang
Rainn Wilson has a movie out in which he is not Dwight Schrute. It is called The Last Mimzy. Rainn Wilson rocks.

Okay, now that that's out of the way... Over on [info]customers_suck, [info]blackfroggy complains about customers who didn't alert them that the previews on the movie were rated R and not PG. Or at the least, failed to alert the theatre quickly enough. The fiance in the post ([info]teenonfire4lord, which sounds like the title of the sophomore album for Faith Plus One; despite the username, he's 23) shows up to defend his wronged beloved and calls the customers who were slow on the draw both lazy and bad parents. Many people point out that customer service is usually the responsibility of the staff, but neither of them will hear anything of it.

Well, considering that most of the posts on [info]customers_suck nowadays are "the customer complained that I didn't do my job!" or some variation thereof, it's not really surprising.

Well, he did create the account 6 years ago.
His userinfo is... wow. "Spirit ranger"? Wow.
The way he's being all "thuggish" posturing with the black and white amusement park felt hat...
The wank is small so far, but the replies to every single comment show the potential for a true wanking all-star.

Fuck the wank, I love that theatre. The ones around here don't seem to give a fuck what the previews are. Given, I've yet to see lots of gore like what the OP described before a children's movie, but lots of general violence and sexual content generally come before whatever movie I'm seeing. (And don't even get me started on the commercials they run on TV.) I guess I'd be a terrible parent, because I kind of expect previews to be that way.

You would think the people would take their children out of the theater as soon as the first preview was ending.

You would, eh? I expect twice as much bitching, then, when whatever causes the fuzzy rabbit movie to be rated PG gets people throwing popcorn at him for "omg not telling us" it wasn't squeaky-clean. That's gonna be hilarious.

Anyone who's seen said previews or read the story mind spoiling me? It sounds like a neat movie, but it also sounds like a vehicle for somebody's personal beliefs, and I want to know if I'm being paranoid before spending my eight bucks on it.

I've no idea what it is, I just want to say that I'm utterly and completely shocked beyond words there's no Wikipedia entry for it that I can find.

Something about a time-traveling, alien, stuffed rabbit that gives two kids special psychic powers or something. It looks considerably better than I'm describing it.

I just know am afraid to see it because it's based on a short story I love, but it looks like they threw in some bullshit about saving the world or something.

The story is called "Mimsy Were the Borogoves," and yes that is a reference to Jabberwocky. You should read it, it's delicious.

I've only ever seen an actual R-rated preview once, the kind with the red screen instead of a green one.

Ironically, it was in front of Bend it Like Beckham - or else it was in front of Spirited Away, I can't actually remember which. I'm pretty sure they were just the previews that the arthouse theatre had on hand, but, uh. Yeah.

I never even realized that previews have ratings and I've seen plenty of R rated movies (though I admit it's been a few years since I've seen a movie in the US so maybe things have changed).

Usually the green title card in front of previews shows both the preview's rating and the movie's actual rating. I've never heard of previews actually being R-rated, though- usually trailers for R-rated movies pare all of the excessively violent/obscene stuff out and are PG.

I'm actually not seeing that blackfroggy is in the wrong here. From what I understand, here's what went down --

(Parent emerges from theater, dragging kids out) Hey, the previews in this movie are rated R!
(Blackfroggy) Whoops, sorry! (Blackfroggy and other staff members scramble to do something about it)
(Parent continues to rant) And that reminds me, there were R-rated previews in a kids' movie last week too! How dare you! Apologize for that too!
(Blackfroggy thinks to self) Wait. It happened a week ago, but you're only telling us about it now?

I mean, suck all around, but I'm not seeing Blackfroggy doesn't have a point here.

It took me a little while to figure out what went down, but I think what happened it this:

Customer: I saw this rated R violent movie last week, and after watching four of the same previews I saw for that movie in front of the PG movie I expected to see now, I realized there was a problem I've come to tell you about it.

Blackfroggy: OMG WTF WHY DID YOU WAIT THROUGH FOUR PREVIEWS?!?!?!

That, and me wondering if The Last Mimzy is so freaking amazing that someone would see not one but two sneak previews of it before general release.
