When Captain Screamy meets Dr. Loud Bang
Rainn Wilson has a movie out in which he is not Dwight Schrute. It is called The Last Mimzy. Rainn Wilson rocks.

Okay, now that that's out of the way... Over on [info]customers_suck, [info]blackfroggy complains about customers who didn't alert them that the previews on the movie were rated R and not PG. Or at the least, failed to alert the theatre quickly enough. The fiance in the post ([info]teenonfire4lord, which sounds like the title of the sophomore album for Faith Plus One; despite the username, he's 23) shows up to defend his wronged beloved and calls the customers who were slow on the draw both lazy and bad parents. Many people point out that customer service is usually the responsibility of the staff, but neither of them will hear anything of it.

I just know am afraid to see it because it's based on a short story I love, but it looks like they threw in some bullshit about saving the world or something.

The story is called "Mimsy Were the Borogoves," and yes that is a reference to Jabberwocky. You should read it, it's delicious.

Every single time I'd seen the ads for that movie, I was crushed not to see a reference to the Jabberwocky. I'm glad to know that there is a connection of some sort.

*blink blink*
Holy shit, really?
That story's haunted me since I was like nine...

Mimsy Were the Borogoves? I guess it is kind of disturbing, but it probably helps that I read it for the first time in college. *shrug*

Oh, dear... that's very much the sort of story that can only be made into a movie by excising absolutely everything that makes it cool. I'd be really surprised if anything except 'toybox from the future!' survived.

That looks to be the case, sadly. And apparently the toys aren't even cool any more! And one of them is a stuffed rabbit that talks.

The rabbit is the Mimzy, apparently.

But, but mimsy is an adjective.

According to the preview, it's the future-people's psychic-power-granting last hope.

That or vegetarians. After reading the story I still have no idea what the fuck relation that first scene has to anything.

I CANNOT FIND THAT STORY. Well, somebody linked to it above, but what I mean is I KNOW we have it in a book of short stories, because I've read it before, so I collected all out relevant short-story collections, and I can't find it. There's one book missing, and it has to be in that one, and I CAN'T FIND IT ARGH.

*comfort* Sorries. I was gonna find a link to it but I guess you already have one...still, I KNOW that feeling of "ARGH WHERE IS IT" where you're going nuts because you KNOW you have it in print around someplace...

I myself have it in a spiral-bound collection of stories we had to read for a college class on Science Fiction. (Best class EVER.)
