But guess what?

It doesn't matter to her.

My brain kind of came to a screeching halt right there. I mean, okay, fanaticism can produce some really strange people, but even then, they generally recognize the need to be, oh, not raped and beaten and tortured every few days. If her message matters to her and she wants to save people, wouldn't she also want to stay alive and travel around so the rational the heathen can hear her? Just talking to her customers doesn't give her a huge chance of converting others, because the numbers are so small. TBH, it doesn't seem like the subversion of a stereotype so much as an excuse to write really violent sex scenes and claim that you're not one of those dirty people who write about rape.

But then, that's expecting logic out of someone who thinks you need an excuse to write about sex, and that of course the heroine must be a slave and forced into bed, because god forbid a woman have any desires of her own.

...Yeah, and now I need a Kleenix. Sorry. This just reminds me waaay too much of how authors like Laurell K. Hamilton approach their heroines. "It's subversive!" No, it's just dumb.
