Someone on Customers_suck pointed this out and I couldn't help it. Apparantly LJ went down for about a day. A paid user thinks they should be refunded that day - which works out to about .08 cents. Wank ensues. Minor, but amusing.

Actually, last year LJ had some trouble for about 4 days and they gave every paid user four extra days of paid time. It's not unprecedented.

The post is still whiny, though.

Wasn't the trouble for longer than 4 days though? I remember the time you're referring to, as well as the extending of paid accounts by 4 days, but if I remember right weren't there fairly serious problems for closer to a week or 10 days?

Yes, and it was a lot more pervasive, as in, most of the users couldn't access the site, not just those on the Santa cluster as in this case (like moi). In that case, it was warranted. In this one? Not so much.

I do agree, it wasn't warranted in this situation. That's part of what I was getting at. It took more than a weeks worth of widespread problems last time to get the compensation. A few hours worth of downtime for just a percentage of users isn't going to get jack shit.

Exactly. I'm one of the affected ones and I could give a flying fuck, as long as it's back up.

It was during a DDOS headache and it went on almost constantly for about three or four days, and then on and off for at least a week after that, probably more. Individual cluster outages happen all the fucking time, this asshat really needs to figure that out.

I work for the phone company and crack up when a customer asks, no, DEMANDS for one day outof service credit. Mind you, these people, a lot of the time, have only basic service with nothing else and only pay about $15 per month if that much. The start ranting and raving when I tell them their credit is only $0.50 with tax. This woman sounds like one of them. They type that will argue over one cent.

I remember when I worked for DirecTV and people would want compensation for TWO HOURS of downtime. Gah.

The funny thing is that LiveJournal wasn't even down for a day. Just part of one; that should probably be closer to $.04.

Not even all of it was down. As I recall, it was just one particular cluster, meaning most users never noticed anything was wrong, other than that it was a little slower than usual.
I mean, geez, anyone bitching about livejournal's never tried to navigate through Gaia on a bad day. Livejournal is beautifully stable and smooth by comparison.

It was the Santa cluster, and not even all users on the Santa cluster were affected the entire time. Reimbursing everyone fairly would be impossible for LiveJournal to do, really.

The only reason why I noticed that the Santa Cluster was down was because I was trying to submit an icon to [info]i_contest. Sure, I was frusterated, but I got over it pretty quickly. Heh.

But, squabbling over 8 cents? Sheesh. Maybe that person should just look around the house or the car for 8 cents and pretend it was a refund from livejournal.

Do you SHIP Baralai/Gippal by any chance?

YES! I still haven't found much fic, though. There's just FF.net, and there are barely three stories on there about them. Pretty soon, I'm going to have to write my own to get my fix.
