Moron refuses to admit he fell on Google's April Fool's prank. Wank ensues!
Google launches their free in-home wireless broadband service. While looking for more information, in the second page, any normal person would IMMEDIATELY REALIZE it is most certainly a prank, as said service involves flushing fiber optic cable down the toilet to access the nodes in the SEWAGE SYSTEM.

On the Google group created specifically for this new service, we have hundreds of people going along with the joke, a handful of clueless people asking if this is a joke, and one particular MORON threatening to sue Google for false advertising.

The whole thread is priceless, but here are some key points:

It HAS to be real. Google could not advertise a service if it were not true. That's the LAW, Per the Federal Trade Commission.

Read it and weap.

I'm not familiar with American regulation agencies, but apparently the guy isn't either and gets called on it. Also, he gets called on the fact that he's an idiot. Check out his response:

You think too highly of yourself..... cause you are not the first
one to tell me that.

What? WHAT? WHAT?!!!! So, am I hallucinating or he's saying it doesn't take a bright person to figure out that he's a moron?

Of course, when we're getting ready to smash our skulls into the pavement and let the brains squirt out from our ears, this guy comes to the rescue:

Unfortunately Dan, the FTC has always been in a derregulated state
between the hours of 12:00:00 AM 4/1/2007 - 11:59:59 PM 4/1/2007.
Hence all issues occuring this timeframe are null and void.

However, if you want you can place a formal complaint. The quickest
way to accomplish this is by using the patented GFlush(TM) technology.
I've been using it all day and it works great.

Step 1: Make sure no one else is currently using the GFlush(TM).
Step 2: Place a notarized copy of your complaint in the crapper.
Step 3: Engage the GFlush(TM) system.
Step 4: Wait for the rushing noise to stop (signifing a successful
transaction).
Step 5: Stick head in toliet and repeat process!

Of course, our MORONIC FRIEND is not one to take a joke gracefully. Emphasis mine:

Funny jwebber.

But your sarcasm is really trite, considering there exists hard
working people who will spend their children's lunch money on this
service. Ipso fatso, I hope for Google's sake that it is true. With
the Democrats in control of Congress, there WILL be hearings, out of
necessity, for the good of the people.

Please do not make light of the plight of laborers.

IPSO FATSO?!! That'd translate roughly to "by that very large chunk of lard," right? I'm just dying to see what the guy's full complaint, addressed to a judge, on paper, would look like.

And the thread keeps growing larger as we speak. By all means, let's make some popcorn, sit back and enjoy!

UPDATE: [info]criticalcricket did some actual research and offered pretty solid proof that the moron in question isn't a moron after all, but rather someone playing his own April Fools prank on the rest of the board. I'm sad and relieved at the same time.

I'm still leaving this here because, as far as I know, this is still a case of trolling and wank.

I still have faith in humanity.

As soon as I see some online, I'm all ready to have faith in it, too!

(Okay, actually, I like people and think we're all basically good. Except possibly me.)

I fell for Gmail Paper for about half a minute. My Dad helped the progress along. He was showing me some Google features he regularly uses, and then introduced Gmail Paper in the middle of his demonstration. I was all "Whaaat? Whaaat?" until I got to the testimonials and it clicked that it was April Fool's.

I fell for it until I got to the "96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum" part. It says a lot about how awesome Google is these days that there's almost no service they can announce that I immediately disbelieve.

Hahaha! I hadn't seen that one before!

Probably works better than the other jokes, because the idea of printing one's emails is actually not that farfetched (of course, having a thousand emails printed by Google and sent to you by post for free is)

Can't speak to the fakewank, but the original Google prank itself is about the funniest fucking thing I've ever seen.

You can also choose to request our professional installation service, which dispatches an army of factory-trained, sub-contracted nanobots from the TiSP Access Node. The nanobots travel with exhilarating nano-speed through the sewer system and into your home to perform the installation service, which should be complete within 15 minutes.

Personally, I thought "Google paper" was funnier, but it's all a question of context, I guess.
