If milk is rape, does that make this prostitution?
The question:

Is it fair/right for a customer to order what we, at my store, call a "ghetto-latte"?

The "ghetto-latte" is ordering any size Iced Americano, with no water and half ice (This lady's drink is an Iced Venti, no water, half ice, Americano). She then takes the drink and goes to the condiments bar and adds her own half and half.

Seems reasonably simple, right?

Not something you'd expect to cause, say, a three-month, several-hundred comment long flamewar which would eventually get heated enough that comments would be closed?

Apparently, none of us know Starbucks that well.

Actually, Starbucks is rape. Wallet rape.

As he said, the value of the drinks is over $10. FOR TWO FREAKIN' CUPS OF COFFEE WITH HALF-AND-HALF! If that's not criminal, I'm not sure what is.

The EXACT drink she orders as we have it on our menu (with all the shots and milk she is actually getting) are called Iced Quad Venti Breve Latte and an Iced Triple Grande Breve Latte.

BARISTA: What would you like today?

CUSTOMER: Regular cup of coffee, black.

BARISTA: ...huh?

Soooo... she's ordering some kind of coffee and then adding half and half to her taste, instead of paying $4 extra, ordering a 'coffee drink' and having the barista do it for her.

Maybe I'm a little slow today (I'm packing for vacay so my mind is elsewhere) but is Starbucks TRYING to be the stupidest Pricer On The Planet?

That shit is confusing- I had to read over it about three times to figure out exactly what the hell is going on and I'm still a little brain locked. Aren't they doing something like charging more for a McDonalds Meal than the separate components would add up to? Or am I missing the part where cream and sugar at a coffee shop are no longer 'to taste' and thus provided free by the shop?

I could kinda see if she got paid by what she sold, and then it would be in the realm of "People who order lemon and water so they don't have to tip for a drink because they're asses," sort of thing, but this just looks like Starbucks is throwing shit in a cup you could get free anyway from three feet to the left and making it more expensive. Amirite?

(See, this is why I drink coffee at home, and if I have to go to Starbucks, I get a soda. Their menus and complicated ordering styles give me a headache. And coffee shouldn't give you a headache. Coffee should give you a happy brain.)

The only real issue here is charging >$10 for two burnt drinks and thinking it's reasonable.

Spartacus, you speak the truth.

Also, did anyone else's head about explode reading those comments? I don't spend much time reading Starbucks' menu, but I am pretty sure half the drinks they talked about weren't on it.

This? This is why I avoid Starbucks in favor of Caribou. I have a fairly good idea what a "Campfire mocha" is going to taste like, especially when they tell me right underneath that it's made with chocolate bits and marshmallows (omgnummy). All this triple grande vente poisson au lait crap makes my head spin.

Not that Caribou is any more reasonable in it's pricing, but damn. Marshmallows.

...Speaking of, BRB.

Face facts, goth is about individuality, getting the same piercings, tatts, listening to the same exact music is not unique it is conforming. In reality you are all wearing little uniforms of conformity and are embarrassments to the real sense of Goth. Its not about what you wear, what you do, its about who you are."

Obviously, hemlockboy is saying here is that jobbing at Starbucks isn't TRUE bartending in the dark. That might well be true, but I wish I could hear the story behind his realization.

Man, these people are total n00bs at ripping off Starbucks.

The couple that liked to rip us off used to order their drinks, drink 95% of it, then fill it up with water in the bathroom and bring it back and tell the manager we made it wrong and that it tasted horrible, and because of our B&N Manager's policy, we always refunded them.

If you really want cheap drinks, put some imagination and dedication into it, you slackers!

So we're all agreed then? Otf_wank hates Starbucks' coffee? Good. Now if someone would just add that to the charter...

To all those so convinced they'll go bankrupt over the dairy: have you ever purchased a gallon of milk??? It really doesn't cost $1/ounce you seem to think it does.

I don't drink coffee (I don't care for the taste, or the effect it has on me), so I'm not up on Starbucks terminology.

if they order an iced quad venti breve latte and you make it for them then it is an iced quad venti breve latte if they order a no water iced venti americano and add half and half at the condo bar then it is a iced venti no water americano.

What the blah blah fuck-ety blah does this mean? I'm used to ordering fine wines in restaurants, and even if they have a 24 page wine list, it's less complicated than this.

When I first saw this, I was sure it was going to be wank over the term "ghetto-latte."

When I realized it wasn't, I was a little disappointed. I would have found it to be much more interesting.

I can't believe no one complained about the word "ghetto" until fully one-third down the comments. These folks fell down on the job.

...I'm confused.

Don't Starbucks usually work from a base drink (espresso/Americano/whateverano) and then charge you extra based on what sort of extras you get? o_O

Bleh. I usually go to Second Cup for my hot chocolate, since Starbucks' hot chocolate tastes nasty, and plus they let you put all the chocolate shavings you want on the whipped cream at Second Cup. ^^

Also, I would like some bubble tea plz.
