If milk is rape, does that make this prostitution?
The question:

Is it fair/right for a customer to order what we, at my store, call a "ghetto-latte"?

The "ghetto-latte" is ordering any size Iced Americano, with no water and half ice (This lady's drink is an Iced Venti, no water, half ice, Americano). She then takes the drink and goes to the condiments bar and adds her own half and half.

Seems reasonably simple, right?

Not something you'd expect to cause, say, a three-month, several-hundred comment long flamewar which would eventually get heated enough that comments would be closed?

Apparently, none of us know Starbucks that well.

Just the thought of that gave me reflux. I love both of those things but not together. shots of each? that I could do.

I fear it, and yet . . .

Actually, what I really want is to make that the Bill Clinton drink in the Drinks of the U.S. Presidents booze series I've been working on.

My dad always said that no child of his was going to learn to drive unless they drove stick, and no child of his was going to drink coffee unless they learned to drink it black.

He had three daughters.

An old boss of mine once said that his fourteen-year-old daughter was starting to ask if she was old enough to drink coffee, because she wanted to try some of the foofy Starbucks combinations. He said he was debating telling her she had to try having a cup of some of the classic Greek diner black sludge first, and only if she could handle THAT could she have a frappucino or whateverthehell Starbucks was selling. He was betting it would turn her off caffine for life.

5YO Drazzi: Mum, what's that you're drinking?
Mother: Black coffee.
5YO Drazzi: ... Can I have some?
Mother: ... Yeees...?

And that's why I drank black coffee twice a day from when I was five to about.. nine. I have to wonder these days why I wasn't a more hyperactive child.

Heh. I did that today, though not at Starbucks. Seriously, it doesn't take a whole lot of half-and-half to make an Americano into a Breve. Why would I pay a dollar sixty more when all it takes is one little ounce thing of half-and-half which is provided for free? I still get my coffee card punched either way.

I can't stop reading the thread!

I drink my iced tea no water

Whah??????

On the other hand, this comment wins, for the funny:

Barristas who accept tips are STEALING from customers. Accepting tips is DISHONEST. Barristas who accept tips are CHEATERS. I feel sorry for them.

If Barristas want to make more money, they should get a job somewhere else. The money they suck out of customers could be used by customers to BUY MORE STARBUCKS PRODUCTS! Barristas who accept tips are reducing Starbucks corporate profits. They are cheating their employers and undermining the free enterprise system in America.

Barristas who accept tips are supporting the terrorists who hate America. Fight terrorism, refuse to tip any Starbucks barrista. The so-called "ghetto latte" (disgraceful, racist name) should be renamed the "People's Latte"!
