If milk is rape, does that make this prostitution?
The question:

Is it fair/right for a customer to order what we, at my store, call a "ghetto-latte"?

The "ghetto-latte" is ordering any size Iced Americano, with no water and half ice (This lady's drink is an Iced Venti, no water, half ice, Americano). She then takes the drink and goes to the condiments bar and adds her own half and half.

Seems reasonably simple, right?

Not something you'd expect to cause, say, a three-month, several-hundred comment long flamewar which would eventually get heated enough that comments would be closed?

Apparently, none of us know Starbucks that well.

I can't get over the fact that the wank is all about the whatever-the-fuck-it-is that drink is and not about calling it a "Ghetto Latte". That's some real class right there, yes it is.

Also, Starbucks sucks.

Yeah, tell me about it. You'd think at least one person would've brought it up by now.

But somebody should! I worked in a cofeeshop for a week before I got fired and the shop went out of business and I can tell you, that is nothing like a latte at all. FALSE ADVERTISING!

Well, there are some people in there who aren't happy with the term and say so. It's just hard to find them in the crowd of people who don't give a shit.

I think I saw some protests with an early September time stamp.

Your icon is intriguing... where is it from?

Thanks. There's a website called Silent Ladies & Gents, with lots of pictures of silent movie stars, and also short quicktime clips. This icon is from the George K. Arthur clip. I just hope you're not asking which movie it is from, because I don't have the slightest clue.

I was doing my usual thing of reading the F_W comments before I read the actual wank, and then I got to your comment and thought, "Wait...this isn't a racism wank?" Then I checked the link and my brain broke a little.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about the whole "ghetto" bit.

And your icon...!

I'm aware of the general sense of 'ghetto' in American English and yet the European in me is wanting to make a dry joke about Warsaw just to point out that the word doesn't only apply to American racism.

You could always quote Newt Gingrich.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this.

Ditto. When I saw the post I thought that was what it was about.

And then the lingo hit my brain, and I stopped reading altogether.

Indeed it is.

I've never had a drink at one, so I'll stay neutral on that.
