My school is special...
So over at the [info]niu community, [info]radiodjchick makes two posts complaining about a woman who brought a baby to class.

[info]swissmiss26 tells her to STFU and do something about it rather than bitch. [info]snachodog says that [info]radiodjchick has every right to be bitchy.

At some point, teaching a college course is equated with boy scouts.

Best quote so far: "Maybe your circle of lj friends will agree with you, but the rest of the world will not."

Depending on what level the boy scouts are, it could certainly be every bit as difficult as teaching a college course, I suppose. Plus, in a number of my college courses, almost all of the teacher's work was in preparing a lecture and grading assignments, because they just lectured the whole time, and MAYBE helped out an individual student or two for a few minutes from every class (and they also get to stick to just their own subject). Scoutmasters are, I would imagine, expected to give pretty much every kid some individual attention at some point, and in multiple subjects.
I also find it amusing that the guy claims being an Eagle Scout as some manner of bragging rights, and then goes on to impugn the work that scoutmasters do.
Though, yeah, both of them are quite nicely wanking, certainly.

i'm snachodog (http://www.livejournal.com/~snachodog) the mod of the community and an eagle scout. I've also worked at a scout camp as a merit badge councilor and was the Senior Patrol Leader of my troop. We are totally boy run. I made up the program for 3 different groups of boys of varying age groups and skill levels. I am now a Assistant Scout master and thank you for voicing your agreement.

Interesting, because I made a similar complaint about a woman in my class. Only at my school, class sizes are much smaller (the course I'm in now has 27 students--one of the biggest classes I've ever taken there), and thus the rooms are smaller. So children in a classroom are an even bigger distraction.

If it happens once, I can forgive it--sitters can crap out at a moment's notice. But if it happens repeatedly (such as in my class)? Well, maybe there's a case for a daycare on campus (which I don't believe my school has). That would help out immensely, I'm sure, since there's a lot of working adults with young children in both the grad and undergrad populations.

They certainly had one at Cal when my mom was getting her M.A. there. One of the first memories I have is of being at U.C. Daycare. I hope they still have it around. Budget cuts and whatnot.

Too bad it was all screened, or I would have replied 'In the spirit of your comment, I would like to inform you of the shift button and the caps lock. Both can be used to create capital letters where needed.'

XD I like how in the first thread they imply that the mom and baby are making NIU 'trashy'.
