Belonging to any subculture is a pathetic attempt to be cool!
Remember [info]aegion, threatening to PWN everyone? Of course you do.

She's back, this time ripping into a poster based on the way their dorm room is decorated.

Her comments were screened, but the text was saved:

Yeah, right, I can see you've done lots of research on me and know me really well. I call rooms like I see them, and I was being nice to you there. But since you decided to try and step up to me, let me spell out some of the reasons why I said that without sugarcoating.

1. You've put several things in your room that make it look like you're trying hard to be "goth" and failing. All the cheesy halloween decorations, spiderweb picture frames, and H.P. Lovecraft book prominently displayed. Etc. None of that is goth it's just corny and tacky.

2.The Simpsons have gotten really lame. I admit I still watch it sometimes, but out of all the things you could have played on your laptop you choose the Simpsons. That tells me you have poor taste in TV shows.

3. Another indication that you're a fake "mall-goth" is your wardrobe. It's all black and it looks like most of it, like the buckle boots and Jack Skellington shirts, is carried at Hot Topic.

4. Your DVD collection sucks. It looks like you get most of your DVDs from Hot Topic and the bargain bin at Wal-Mart

5. The lack of many books and the guinness beer promotional-ad imply that you're a semi-illiterate drunkard.

6. Your buddhist figurines are displayed in a way that makes it seem like your purpose for getting them was to proclaim to the world "Look everyone, I'm a buddhist!"

Minor flaws of your room that weren't bad enough to be included in the main list:

-Memos pasted on wall, white board, and blue sticky notes everywhere. Is this a bedroom or an office? If you're going to do that at least get black office supplies to go with the overall mall goth theme.

-Glaring red LED on alarm clock. The only acceptable colors of alarm clock LEDS are grey or blue. Unless that was a gift, you have poor taste.

-Christmas lights.

-Cheap particle board furniture.

Let me tell you this straight up, the only reason you have even the little bit of coolness that you do is because you're attractive. People, especially guys, have reacted good to you your whole life, so that instills a certain confidence and coolness in your attitude. If you were ugly you would have zero coolness. And I know you posted that close up of your face with the caption "my ugly mug", but you know you look good. If you thought you were ugly you wouldn't have posted a close up of your face in a community of 3,000 people.

What did I miss here? That it's a Jack Skellington throw instead of a shirt and an LCD screen playing the Simpsons instead of a laptop? You're splitting hairs. All the points I made still remain.

Here's what you need to do: Stop smoking marijuana and drinking. Start reading books more. You'll gradually get cooler. When it comes to interior design coolness and intelligence often go hand in hand.

I was really harsh just now, but I tried to compliment you at first and you wouldn't let me. The reason I'm not as harsh with all these lame kids who have Orlando Bloom posters or random magazine pictures on their walls is they aren't trying. You're trying. Identification with a subculture (in your case goth) is an automatic attempt at being cool. Once you've done that you've thrown down the gauntlet, because it's not only an attempt it's a self-declaration that you already think you're cool. So anyone identifying with a subculture better be on the cutting edge of that subculture and pulling it off 100% or they leave themselves open to criticism of the worst kind.

Of course, being [info]aegion, and quite possibly a troll, when a mod post is made, she has to show up and make an ass of herself, including mouthing off to the mod ([info]_somethingblue).

The deleted comment:

Well that girl threw the gauntlet down when she identified with a subculture (goth) because as I said that's an automatic attempt at and self-declaration that someone thinks they're cool, so they better pull their chosen subculture off well or they leave their self open to criticism. I complimented her first saying "your room is better than 95% of other rooms" then she insulted me so I stopped sugarcoating things.

I just give criticism sometimes. I never say something that has no justification or basis though. But I understand how someone probably wrote you a long email and that's annoying for you so I'll try to be nicer. I honestly didn't think someone would get their feelings hurt so much over what I said, and if I had thought that I wouldn't have said it to them.

Perhaps this is her way of trying to pwn us . . . ?

Welcome to dorm life, where your bedroom and your office are THE SAME FUCKING PLACE BECAUSE IT'S A FUCKING DORM!

. . .Er, sorry, I'm just really sick of my dorm room. And Aegion, but I think I managed to scare her out of girl_gamers.

Yeah, and

-Cheap particle board furniture.

IT IS A DORM ROOM WHAT DO YOU EXPECT.

We don't furnish these ourselves, and most of the furniture people try to bring in winds up being confiscated for not being flame retardant enough, or something.

Yup, we weren't allowed to remove our cheap particle board furniture, not even if we offered to store it at our own expense, and bring it back the moment we move out, and pay for the whole fucking thing if we happen to fail to do so.

It's pretty obvious who hasn't ever gone to college lived in a dorm room. Actually, it kind of makes me wonder if she's actually over 18, because most people over 18 would have some kind of experience with dorm rooms (living in one, visiting friends/family in one) and know half that stuff is par for the course because of the nature of dorm rooms.

I'm just full of the tl;dr tonight.

To burn it, to make up for the utter shit that is dorm room heating? That's all our lounge furniture is good for.

Seriously. My uni refers to them as 'study bedrooms' because, y'know, that's what they ARE.

And most of the people I know here at uni brought hardly any books with them - they do plenty of reading for uni work anyway, & when they've finished they want to do something else, & if there is a book they want to read that they didn't bring with them, well they can just deal until they're able to get home & grab it. I'm an exception because I don't have a home other than this (that & can't live without books) so brought all mine with me.

I brought a shitload of books with me my first year in college, and let me tell you, it was a complete waste of space. I was either reading for class, or reading NEW books I'd never read before (AMAZING!) from the library.

Me too. I brought all my "comfort books" with me, and they took up all the space on the (TINY) bookshelf they provided, and plus they were a pain to carry around. And I didn't read a single one! Learned my lesson for second year, I'll tell you that much...

Yep. I brought a ton of books and movies and added to them and by the time I left, my mother wanted to kill me.

Assorted crap: 2 boxes to haul home
Clothes: 2 boxes to haul home
Books and movies: 4 boxes to haul home.

DEAD SERIOUS.

Your uni wouldn't happen to be a certain 'college by the sea', would it? My old uni called our rooms 'study bedrooms' and my friends who went to other places looked at me really oddly when I mentioned the name. If it is the same place, I was one of the very first lot in PJM so that'll tell you how long ago!

Seriously. What do they expect from a dorm room? And, yeah, the whole lack of books thing. Does anyone actually keep a library in their dorm room? Cause, yeah, I'm a huge reader and probably have less than ten books here. But, perhaps, I might be doing other stuff. Like studying maybe?

Sorry for getting slightly rant-y.

I admit I was spoiled by my second dorm room. (I transferred.) Huge space, wooden floors, lovely view AND we could bring in our own furniture with no problems so I had bookcases everywhere. This was an OLD building, though, hallelujah, not the concrete and steel monster that I was stuck in at first.

Why do they do that to kids?! Would it kill anyone to design a dorm that doesn't resemble a jail cell?

Heh. My hall was actually designed by a guy who did prisons and mental institutions- it's got this part of the wall that juts out in the middle of the hall and has a mirror on either side, because apparently this slows down mobs of people trying to rush the doors/guards.

the dorms at my uni all have these fire doors, so not only are they all concrete and steel, but the doors slam closed like cell doors or something. Whenever I study with any of my friends that live in the dorms I ask to go somewhere else because it's deeply unsettling.

Apparently - my dad's instant reaction to my middle sister's Halls room was 'Oh, how nice, a jail cell'. And these the mice shiny new ones that the uni was so very proud of...

Mine was huge, and for all that it was a bit square and boring, at least looked like a room...so of course they've knocked that block down to build more jail cells.

But to be fair, I knew I was moving out the next semester and not going hom to my parents again for a long while. Also? Those books were heavy, inconvenient, space-consuming AND I think I only managed to read one of them all semester. PFF!

Well, that was the other wank s/h/it was in, someone asking for a cut there. Then they tried to play martyr by declairing they're the only person who isn't a Nintendo/Microsoft fangirl and they must ceaslessly defend the PS3 because it is the superior console aside from the $600 price tag which for some reason shouldn't factor into any discussion at all. They stop posting after I told them to STFU because they're a fanboy and a troll and killing the discussion, hence me figuring I scared them away.
