Belonging to any subculture is a pathetic attempt to be cool!
Remember [info]aegion, threatening to PWN everyone? Of course you do.

She's back, this time ripping into a poster based on the way their dorm room is decorated.

Her comments were screened, but the text was saved:

Yeah, right, I can see you've done lots of research on me and know me really well. I call rooms like I see them, and I was being nice to you there. But since you decided to try and step up to me, let me spell out some of the reasons why I said that without sugarcoating.

1. You've put several things in your room that make it look like you're trying hard to be "goth" and failing. All the cheesy halloween decorations, spiderweb picture frames, and H.P. Lovecraft book prominently displayed. Etc. None of that is goth it's just corny and tacky.

2.The Simpsons have gotten really lame. I admit I still watch it sometimes, but out of all the things you could have played on your laptop you choose the Simpsons. That tells me you have poor taste in TV shows.

3. Another indication that you're a fake "mall-goth" is your wardrobe. It's all black and it looks like most of it, like the buckle boots and Jack Skellington shirts, is carried at Hot Topic.

4. Your DVD collection sucks. It looks like you get most of your DVDs from Hot Topic and the bargain bin at Wal-Mart

5. The lack of many books and the guinness beer promotional-ad imply that you're a semi-illiterate drunkard.

6. Your buddhist figurines are displayed in a way that makes it seem like your purpose for getting them was to proclaim to the world "Look everyone, I'm a buddhist!"

Minor flaws of your room that weren't bad enough to be included in the main list:

-Memos pasted on wall, white board, and blue sticky notes everywhere. Is this a bedroom or an office? If you're going to do that at least get black office supplies to go with the overall mall goth theme.

-Glaring red LED on alarm clock. The only acceptable colors of alarm clock LEDS are grey or blue. Unless that was a gift, you have poor taste.

-Christmas lights.

-Cheap particle board furniture.

Let me tell you this straight up, the only reason you have even the little bit of coolness that you do is because you're attractive. People, especially guys, have reacted good to you your whole life, so that instills a certain confidence and coolness in your attitude. If you were ugly you would have zero coolness. And I know you posted that close up of your face with the caption "my ugly mug", but you know you look good. If you thought you were ugly you wouldn't have posted a close up of your face in a community of 3,000 people.

What did I miss here? That it's a Jack Skellington throw instead of a shirt and an LCD screen playing the Simpsons instead of a laptop? You're splitting hairs. All the points I made still remain.

Here's what you need to do: Stop smoking marijuana and drinking. Start reading books more. You'll gradually get cooler. When it comes to interior design coolness and intelligence often go hand in hand.

I was really harsh just now, but I tried to compliment you at first and you wouldn't let me. The reason I'm not as harsh with all these lame kids who have Orlando Bloom posters or random magazine pictures on their walls is they aren't trying. You're trying. Identification with a subculture (in your case goth) is an automatic attempt at being cool. Once you've done that you've thrown down the gauntlet, because it's not only an attempt it's a self-declaration that you already think you're cool. So anyone identifying with a subculture better be on the cutting edge of that subculture and pulling it off 100% or they leave themselves open to criticism of the worst kind.

Of course, being [info]aegion, and quite possibly a troll, when a mod post is made, she has to show up and make an ass of herself, including mouthing off to the mod ([info]_somethingblue).

The deleted comment:

Well that girl threw the gauntlet down when she identified with a subculture (goth) because as I said that's an automatic attempt at and self-declaration that someone thinks they're cool, so they better pull their chosen subculture off well or they leave their self open to criticism. I complimented her first saying "your room is better than 95% of other rooms" then she insulted me so I stopped sugarcoating things.

I just give criticism sometimes. I never say something that has no justification or basis though. But I understand how someone probably wrote you a long email and that's annoying for you so I'll try to be nicer. I honestly didn't think someone would get their feelings hurt so much over what I said, and if I had thought that I wouldn't have said it to them.

Perhaps this is her way of trying to pwn us . . . ?

I have a blue travel one that my brother stole. It's palm size.

I find it as equally annoying as any other alarm clock and use my cell phone instead.
