Childfree vs Metaquotes vs Stupid_free vs 'George Carlin' of the Furry Internets
(moved from [info]clairvoyantwank

Over on Metaquotes</s>, [info]2_gryphon is quoted with an amusing -- and relatively benign -- retelling of his verbal sparring with an irate father.

And then a gleeful [info]featherypony happily comments that they'd love to share the post with [info]childfree.

Power Word: KNEE-JERK

[info]mayavada swoops in and lashes out at the OP and the mention of [info]childfree.

Ready. Set. Wank.

Enjoy!

Bonus: It's been reported back to [info]childfree.

And they're off!

EDIT: This wank report has been brought to you by four cups of coffee and all the jelly beans in my kid's Easter basket. *gibber* *gibber*

EDIT II: It's now made it to [info]stupid_free, [info]customers_suck, [info]cs_snark and [info]cf_snark

Good times

*sits in the corner with you two*

Agreed. My dad would look him, like "Bitch, please." Most parents I know would, because it was so not a real comeback. That's the kind of crap that you think of *after* the incident happens. Not while.

Exactly. I don't know about anyone else, but I usually think of the clever quips upon reflection, not in the middle of the sitch. The only exception I know of was a customer who accused me of being racist for checking his ID (he was paying via credit card). I said "I guess that means I'm racist against everyone then." He cancelled the sale and walked away in a huff. And I didn't care, since it was only $30 and change.

Plus, under store policy I can refuse a sale anyway if the customer won't present ID. Especially if they're being an ass about it. And I'd rather err on the side of caution and lose a sale than accept a stolen card.

I worked at Joanne's Fabric for a month when I was 16-years-old and some lady was an ass because I wanted to see ID. I got yelled at by her, she canceled the 30 buck order, and the managers weren't happy with me...for daring to want to see her ID since it was a bank card, and I'm of the opinion of not screwing out could be potential victims. Or landing my ass in hot water if I don't have too. I wasn't called racist, but everyone looked at me funny. *eye roll* That's right, because I had carded everyone since no one told me the policy in the first place.

When I got home, I'm sure I was clever with the quips, but at the time, I was mortified. But the customer behind the angry leaving lady was nice and understood. Made me feel a little better.

Wow. That's messed up.

The manager on duty wasn't perturbed at the loss of a $30 sale. She was like "for all you know, he WAS using a hot card and didn't want to get caught."

Basically, I was told it's better to refuse a sale with a belligerent customer who won't present ID. Because if the card turns out to be stolen? We're out the money anyway because the cardholder is not responsible for that purchase, as well as the merchandise. At least if the sale is refused, we still have the product to sell to someone else.

It was pretty messed up. Apparently I had more sense than the managers did.

See! You're manager? Has a functioning brain. It's more hassle than the 30 bucks is worth. I mean, honestly, 30 bucks at a store is pocket-change, but the merchandise comes out of overhead right? Like ultimately it'd be less profit, and that doesn't make the financial people very happy.
