More Cuteoverload wank
I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet.

Yesterday on Cute Overload a series of pictures featuring a fat tuxedo cat draped over a couch.

On the second comment involves how unhealthy it is for a cat to be so fat.

Over 400 comments later ranging from it's still a healthy weight for a cat, personal anecdotes, feline and human obesity and vegetarianism.

I think my personal favorite is

2. I don't want to get into the whole Darwin thing, but there is only about a 2% difference in our DNA and the DNA of monkeys. Monkeys are vegans.

But apes eat like little monkeys and termites and stuff?

Not to mention the fact that it's chimps we're the closest related to, not monkeys.

Yeah, and most monkeys are not "vegan"- even Colubus, which eat leaves, also eat insects and birds eggs when they find them.

Well, on the other hand, you have gorillas, whose meat consists of not much more than termites, whereas the rest of their diet is pure veggies and fruit.

I can deal with ignorant and uneducated people, but dealing with people who've swallowed all the psuedo-science factoids makes my head hurt.
And if someone comes to me and says "Hey, don't worry about underachieving, we're all underachievers--we only use 10% of our brains," then I like to insure that the factoid becomes true for them.

Except for the part where, y'know, chimps kill and eat galagoes. With sticks. And colobus monkeys, termites, human children, etc.

We've been lucky--our cats don't seem to have a problem with their weight, unlike those of all the people I know. :< Not sure why, I guess we just feed them less...?

That cat's owner obviously needs to start it on an exercise regimen. Perhaps if s/he limits its food, it will burn calories chasing her around the house trying to EAT HER FLESH TO MAKE UP FOR FOODUMS.

I believe veganism is the natural way humans are supposed to eat because:

1. Humans do not have carnivorous teeth - not like other carnivorous animals such as cats and dogs. Our couple of teeth that are slightly pointy were, in my opinion, designed to crack nuts and things like that, primordially.

2. I don't want to get into the whole Darwin thing, but there is only about a 2% difference in our DNA and the DNA of monkeys. Monkeys are vegans.

3. I believe that anything that appears to be unhealthy to the human body is not naturally designed for the human body, i.e. meat - frequent and excessive consumption of meat can cause constipation, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, body odor, etc.

I'm just sorry that the public education system failed him or her so badly.

I don't know why (maybe it's the lack of sleep), but that's making me think of a certain The Simpsons reference.

No, you'll never make a monkey out of me."

Well...yes and no.

Certainly we have canines, but those aren't meant to crack nuts; that's the job of our molars, IIRC, so it's perfectly natural to assume there was some meat in our ancestors' diets (Then again, gorillas, which are mostly vegetarian, have ginormous canines nonetheless). But we definitely need fruits and veggies in our diet as well. So, you could say that we're, oh, I dunno, omnivorous?
