More Cuteoverload wank
I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet.

Yesterday on Cute Overload a series of pictures featuring a fat tuxedo cat draped over a couch.

On the second comment involves how unhealthy it is for a cat to be so fat.

Over 400 comments later ranging from it's still a healthy weight for a cat, personal anecdotes, feline and human obesity and vegetarianism.

I think my personal favorite is

2. I don't want to get into the whole Darwin thing, but there is only about a 2% difference in our DNA and the DNA of monkeys. Monkeys are vegans.

That cat's owner obviously needs to start it on an exercise regimen. Perhaps if s/he limits its food, it will burn calories chasing her around the house trying to EAT HER FLESH TO MAKE UP FOR FOODUMS.

/bitter experience

Yeeeees. Trying to put a cat on a diet can be a painful experience. And the people who suggest that the owner get the cat on an exercize regiment are clearly dog owners.

I don't know-- I've found that putting my cat on a diet has increased MY exercise, as I've had to find new places I can get to quickly where I can't hear the pathetic, constant whining.

I have a similar problem. When my cats are hungry, they get hyper. Even if I feed them right before I go to bed, at about three or four in the morning they'll wake me up with their rambunctious playing. I'm talking "who invited the herd of elephants?" here.

The only way to get a good night's sleep is to use earplugs (which I can only do if I don't have to set my alarm), or to put out enough food that they won't get hungry later.

I was just at the vet with my cats, and the vet said that while my cat does need to lose weight, we're talking about losing it over the next TWO or THREE YEARS. Very gradual is the idea here.

I anticipate much less of the trying to eat my flesh with this plan. Maybe it will help others too?

In the meantime, here are boobies to make up for the serious business in the wank. *flashes*

My vet just told me to play with my cat more. :)

I did finally find the Perfect Toy for her, which makes her leap into the air and run like an insane thing about the room - a long pole with a string and a tassel on the end.

I've inadvertently made her run directly into the wall at full speed before. I laughed my ass off. :)

For my kitties the best toy is the Cat Dancer. Which is essentially a length of wire with a piece of cardboard on the end. I pull it out and they go nuts. Even better is my laser pointer and my calico kitty. I just pick the thing up and her eyes get soooo big and she start chirping she wants to chase the little red spot so badly.

I don't have a laser pointer right now, so I haven't tried my current cat on one. Mom's cat, when I had a pointer, was interested, made one grab for it and realized it wasn't real, and ignored it completely thereafter. XD

Well at first it was just a flashlight(she does the same thing when I grab the flashlight) and she falls for the dancing red spot that she can't grab every single time. It's great.

Chinese yoyos. My cat will run from wherever she is if anyone picks it up to play with it.

On the other hand, when she catches it, she wants to bend it all around and lie on it and bite it, which is not good for the PAPER it's made of. So I now have the habit of buying them whenever I see any.

Hey, my cat wasn't even on a diet, but she still used to bite my ankles until I fed her in the morning.

I mean, there's me trying to make my morning mad dash for the bathroom before I pee myself, and then suddenly I'm face down on the floor with a rather petit cat chewing my ankles.

Then she'd always look at me as if to say 'What?' when I started ranting.

One of Red's cats needed a diet because her cat-sitter couldn't listen to her instructions. At the same time, her other cat who'd recently undergone surgery needed to build her weight. Needless to say, it was quite a chore.

Oh, for the good days of being poked in the nose by a cat at 6 am, and being told very distinctly it wanted to be fed. That was a fun visit.
