Photobucket vs. Myspace!
Apparantly, Myspace has made it impossible to hotlink Photobucket images or videos and use on your Myspace profile.

The Powers of Photobucket are not happy about this and post in their company blog

Of course, there's lots of wank in comments.

The articulate ones:
IF U LIMIT PHTO PEOPLE WILL LEAVE MY SPACE AND GO TO OTHER SITES THAT DO NOT HAVE RECTRICTONS

The I'm-gonna-pimp-MY-site-now ones:
I am trying to get my own social network going that I hope will outperform myspace-but no members yet, and it will rely heavily on third party video/image/audio feeds.
I haven't tried embeded a photobucket video into it as I haven't seen one yet, but that would only take a few minute to fix if given the format.

The [not-really-related-but-disliked-political-faction] comparsion:
Wow and the fascism train of myspace picks up more speed! That what happens when a good independent idea gets bought by a corporation!

i did not know we lived in communist russia.
what a f ing joke. tom you are overstepping your boundries. of the people by the people for the people! don't forget who made you rich... US! very typical of ever good thing, it has to come to an end. i hope you
( myspace/tom) reconsider the error of your ways. FOAD!!!!

etcetera and so on.

Anyone knows if MySpace has said something about this? I can't find anything there, so I haven't even looked.

Er... any word on *why* my space has banned photobucket accounts? I know there was a big brew-ha-ha awhile ago where photobucket became more restrictive of content that could be placed on their page because of people on my space whining that someone 'omg posted dirty pictures on my space using a photobucket account!' The ABJD fandom went minor nuts over it because 'our pictures of nekkid dolls are totally not porn photobucket is opressing us.'

Did they just get tired of complaints dealing with inappropriate content posted from photobucket? Do they have a pay image feature like livejournal so allowing free images is taking money out of their pockets? (In which case I'd suspect they'd go after more image hosting services than just photobucket.) Or did they just up and decide they didn't like photobucket's mom's face one morning?

My mistake; it's not the images that are banned, only the videos.

But why they are banned I don't know. Someone in the comments mentioned a deal with YouTube, but that could just be regular paranoia talking. In short - no idea.

does photobucket crack down on illegal videos the way youtube (in a token, half assed sort of way) does? because it may just be MySpace doesn't want to be sued by viacom for random clips of Colbert Report somebody posted up.

You can't write URLs in your messages either. So apparently it's Myspace against the internet.

I shall now spend the next ten minutes imagining this fight. Myspace will be in blue spandex and the internet will be dressed as racoon with wings. I will give them both vorpal blades and a can of mace. They can fight... in LambdaMOO? Awesome. ENIAC can be the referee. It will be epic. At least until I get distracted by actual work.

(Also, Jason Momoa is hot.)

The one and only! I seem to remember this issue also had the descendants of Moby Dick suing Herman Melville's estate for defamation of character and Kim Jong-Il banning toast.

I don’t even need to imagine it, ‘cause I bet it’ll look like this.

Oh, fuck, we did? Did it get very wanky?

ABJDs: the hobby that wanks like a fandom!
