I wish I had a joke about drinking problems...
On stupid_free, [info]gridlore posts link to an account of an occasion where he, quote, "met rudeness with snark". Specifically, some black girl didn't want to sit next to anyone, tried to make him give up his seat-with an empty one next to him-and he made fun of her in a very House-like way. Everyone hastens to call BS. Incidentally, all little old ladies speak English, and GridLore doesn't get to complain because [info]thexphial's Jewish ancestors were lynched.

Please, no Irishbashing.
EDIT: Personally, I would've just gone "Yes." and kept on eating my Vanilla Frosty. Now at Wendy's!

As usual, it's the series of "YOU ROCK!" comments that are making me ill.

"The vote. Your franchise. Do you have the ability to secure credit under your own name? Can you, if you wish, apply to be a firefighter or police officer? Do you have a legal identity that is not attached to your husband or father? Are you judged on merit, rather than gender, at your place of work? In short, do you enjoy all the rights and privileges of a US citizen regardless of your gender?"

She said "Yeah," to that? That proves he's lying.

Yeah, what the hell. And Connecticut seems to be involved, but I am not sure why.

Why do I have the soundtrack to 'White Christmas' running through my head? Oh, wait, that's Vermont...

Regional similarities to Vermont? Them what are of Irish descent talking about sunburning easily? The fact that it's snowing pretty damn heavily here in Minnesota? I don't know, man!

I'm guessing because she was thinking the song "White Christmas" came from the movie "Christmas in Connectiuct", but then realized it was from the movie which is set in Vermont.

Just guessing, though! It may be because she likes the song so much!

Perhaps because Connecticut was the site of a few "sundown towns"? (These were towns where it was kind of an unofficial law that if you were black or Jewish there after dark, you'd be picked up by the police for trespassing because you sure as hell didn't live there.)

That makes mild sense.

I've read a little further in the comment thread in here, though; it actaully seems like the implication is more "people from Connecticut are people of privilege and don't know what real hardship is."

At which point I wanted to ask them where all the money my "privileged" ass is supposed to have is being kept, because I SURE as hell haven't seen it yet....(grumble)
