Rosie and the Boycott Conspiracy Therapy
Over at the AOL Video Blog, the wank keeps rolling in as Rosie O'Donnell continues to prove that The View is now just "The Rosie O'Donnell Show"...Part Deux.

The entry spotlights the site http://www.stoprosie.com/ and their crusade to boycott not just The View, but contact the companies whose products are advertised during the commercial breaks.

The real spotlight is on the blog comment board, as pro/anti Rosie visitors bring the funny and the stupid:

Rosie is ridiculous and so are her views and conspiracy therapy. Why would anyone waste their valuable time on such ridiculous television viewing as the view and Rosie?

I just checked out the stop Rosie site. Check out what they want money for. It is a big scam. I would buy myself a laptop before someone else. They need to get over themselfs and get a job

(I will not make a CC joke...I will not make a CC joke....I will not...)

I do not watch the View and especially since Rosie makes such hateful comments starting with Clay/Kelly episode and it's been non stop. The final straw when she criticizes our government for starting 9/11.

As for the petition site, they warned that they will be removing "fake names", which made me curious. I've just started looking over the list and I've already picked out Jack Meyoff, Michael Myers, and Right Wingnuts. Now all I need is to find Ivanna Humpalot and I'll be set.

The funny part about signing the petition is it just has a form to enter names in. There's no way to authenticate that it's a real person. For all we know, half the names on there could be from people sitting there and typing in the names of every person they know or just randomly going through a phonebook. Are they really so naive as to think people won't take advantage of it?

Are the fake names still on it? Because I'd LOL.

Yeah, and there is much loling to be had. I do not envy the guy that has to "edit" this list.

I actually found an Ivanna (Shavemynuts), just not the Humpalot. :( I'll have to keep looking.

It's a terrible petition. No one would take it seriously at all. :T

Online petitions in general are just FAIL. At least with ink-and-paper petitions, when actual signatures are being collected, it's harder to fake a huge list of names. I wonder how these people expect to be taken seriously when their petition is so easy to fake?

It's a petition about ROSIE O'DONNELL. There isn't much serious to take in the first place!

True that, too. *g* If they're so worked up about anti-Amurricanism on TV, then Rosie is the least of their problems. I love how their whole mission statement is basically "We understand she has a right to free speech, but we want her to lose her job and it's too bad if The View gets pulled because we encourage advertisers to pull out, too". I'm all for "don't like don't watch", mind, but I'm also all for letting people make asses of themselves in public without fear of losing their jobs over it (which is why Don Imus' firing rubs me the wrong way).

Wow, that was too serious. Uhm... have a kittytar icon.

I have no idea who Don Imus is.

He's a radio talk show host/"shock jock" that recently got fired off his radio show because he called the (all-black) Rutgers womens' basketball team "a bunch of nappy-headed hos". This caused a shitstorm in the media and civil rights groups.

I think that the free speech protection only applies to government reprisal, not backlash from the marketplace. This works for me because I hate Imus, who should have been canned years ago when he referred to Gwen Ifill as the "cleaning lady". What an asshole!

OK, my sympathy for him just went down a lot. :/ I will grant that I didn't listen to his show, but if Imus has consistently been an ass... I still think it's a wee hypocritical for the media to dump on him for making such a comment when one can turn on BET almost any time of the day or night and watch music videos that objectify black women and call them "hos", "bitches" and everything in-between, though.

Yep, the ol' double-standard, it's-ok-if-rappers/blackcomics-say-it-but-nobody-else hypocrisy needs to be taken down next. Still, I'll take what I can get (and I'm an unabashed Gwen Ifill fangirl). Check out what she wrote in the NYT today:

That is awesome.

I like how she describes her reaction as "Oh?... Whatever."

There's just something incredibly satisfying-sounding about hearing about a somebody not getting the memo on what some obnoxious media personality said about them for years and not caring when they finally do.

It just puts them and their probable influence in perspective.
