It's not fandom...it's not depressing...it's otf!
Well, unless you're depressed by the fact that this exists. It's an imperfect world.
Meet bgdbill. Maybe you've met before; he seems familiar.
His technique of posting a list of hotel complaints in a hotel workers community, however, seems like pointing-and-laughing fodder.

"1. @#$%T* Maids! I have a deep hatred of all hotel maids everywhere. This is by far the biggest annoyance to living in hotels. Nothing else is even close. It is a COMMON occurance that 3-4 different maids will knock on my door (which always has a do not disturb sign on it) between 7 - 10 am. They will often call me on the phone in addition to pounding on the door (note to maids - WAKING ME UP WITH THE PHONE IS JUST AS DISTURBING AS POUNDING ON MY DOOR!). I honestly do not know why I still bother to use the do not disturb sign. I have enough hotel maid horror stories to fill a book. Highlights include finding a maid taking a dump in my bathroom, finding a maid in my room with her boyfriend and kid (kid was amusing himself with my laptop)and a 300lb maid who sat down next to me while I was eating in the breakfast room, removed her sneakers and began massaging her feet.

2. Other guests. Family reunions down south or kids sports teams completely take over hotels and are a recipe for a truly miserable night. I have twice stayed in Sheratons that had kids hockey teams staying in them. Parents go to the bar and kids run wild over the hotel all night (including playing hockey in the halls until after midnight.

3. Front Desk people who have no idea how to do their job. If your hotel has agreed to participate in programs from hotwire, Orbitz etc it may be a good idea to let the front desk people know. Calling hotwire, orbitz, Hotels.com at 2:00 am is no fun! It seems that the later at night I arrive the more likely I am to get a front desk person who has no clue.

4. Key cards. The 3rd time I have to drag my suitcases down to the front desk because my key won't work, I start to get nasty. Several times I have been given keys to a room to discover someone sleeping in the bed when I open the door.

5. Maids again. I really hate those maids!

6. Breakfast. A pile of white bread and a toaster do not make a breakfast (continental or otherwise). I'm not expecting florentine omelets but I often choose one hotel over another because one advertises a breakfast.

7. Sleazy hotel policies. If you are going to force me to pay for a safe in the room you could at least make it big enough for my laptop so the maids kids cannot get at it. "Electricity fees", "Resort fees", "Security fees", "convenience fees" etc are just borderline fraudelant ways to advertise one room rate and charge another when the guest has already arrived.

8. Demanding a credit card for "incidentals". Like everyone else in the world, I have a cell phone. I will not use the room phone (and often unplug them because of the maids) and I am not interested in paying $20.00 to watch a 3 year old movie. Most of my reservations are pre paid. At least once a month, myself or someone who works for me ends up getting the room rate (which has already been paid) charged to the card they gave for "incidentals". This is a gigantic pain in the ass to get fixed a month later.

9. Door Slams. This really just part of the maids problem. Even if you are lucky enough not to be disturbed by maids pounding on your own door you will almost certainly be disturbed by them repeatedly allowing the doors next to yours to slam on the security lock. This can be as loud as cannonfire in some hotels and will shake the entire building.

10. Bad Internet Service. I always choose hotels which offer high speed internet access. I work from my room and if the internet service goes down I need to spend my day in a Starbucks or Kinkos. Many hotels seem to have the janitor in charge of their IT infrastructure. When the net goes down it needs to be repaired with the same urgency as if the water or heat go out."

And lo, there was much smackdown.
psyco_chick32 points out "Know what I found funny? The fact that he comments how much he hates giving credit cards for incidentals... and THEN admitted that he stole a radio/clock!!" click
i_id assures him that "the maids hate you, too." click
candiandreamr is pretty much alone in thinking that this is a good thing. click

bdgbill is shocked that his post was taken offensively, as "I have spent a week or so reading comments here and after complaining with my coworkers for years about hotels I got a lot of perspective from the hotel employees point of view." He continues to miss the point and believes that responding to no one in particular will heal all ills. They have no problem responding to him, though. bgdbill decides to finish it off with "screw all you psychos, especially the maids!"

I was really surprised it didn't get more action, but the first few replies kinda handed it to him, leaving most to AWTC. It did get posted to C_S and S_F, however, so there may be more.

edit because a link is fine, too

I work at a hotel type place.

When faced with this kind of person, we have a Policy, handed down from On High by the owner himself.

"Just give 'em the ten percent discount, smile, and ignore."

I want to know where these horror story hotels are, as with the majority I've stayed at, you wouldn't even know maids exist aside from the work of small, industrious elves who make my bed before I retire for the day.

There seems to be some rule in my universe that the only time I see maids in hotels is when I am, like, making out with someone. At a hotel with my parents? Stealth maids. Sitting around behaving myself? Stealth maids. But god dammit the minute anyone starts rolling around being inappropriate, BAM, MAID SERVICE.

I don't think it's the maids at fault, I think it's the universe telling me to quit that.

The only times I've ever encountered hotel maids, they Love been extraordinarily nice. One of my best memories ever are from when I was younger, and had spent most of my vacation vainly searching the beaches for nautilus shells. So they gave me a perfectly intact nautilus shell. And then another time a maid was moving, and she gave me and my brother any books we wanted of the books she couldn't afford to bring with her.

Therefore I want to hit this guy upside the head with a lead sign saying hotel maids are awesome.

What does he think they're going to do with it, prank-call the maids that are cleaning other rooms?

Malaysian hotels are the best and cheapest I've ever been in. You have pool, nice beds, full amenities, lovely staff at only 70 bucks per night (That was in 2000 though). And a buffet breakfast.

I also find myself wondering what hotels he is staying in, because I've stayed in some super-crap hotels and I've never had any problems like that...

The only thing I can *vaguely* agree on is that I wish hotels would warn people when they have something like an anime convention or a sci-fi convention or a high school sports tournament in the hotel that isn't taking up the entire hotel, and let people make the decision of whether they want to put up with the noise for themselves.

Because from what I've seen at anime cons, it would save the front desk a decent amount of having to deal with raging mundanes screaming about shutting up the convention noise.

What always amuses me is when there's two conventions or gatherings at the same hotel with wildly opposite agendas. Like the time I went to Yaoi-con and there was a Christian Youth Convention going on at the same time.

... you mean hotels don't just cater to single individuals? They actually provide rooms to many different people at a time? How dare they! It's like they want to make money or something! D:
