It's not fandom...it's not depressing...it's otf!
Well, unless you're depressed by the fact that this exists. It's an imperfect world.
Meet bgdbill. Maybe you've met before; he seems familiar.
His technique of posting a list of hotel complaints in a hotel workers community, however, seems like pointing-and-laughing fodder.

"1. @#$%T* Maids! I have a deep hatred of all hotel maids everywhere. This is by far the biggest annoyance to living in hotels. Nothing else is even close. It is a COMMON occurance that 3-4 different maids will knock on my door (which always has a do not disturb sign on it) between 7 - 10 am. They will often call me on the phone in addition to pounding on the door (note to maids - WAKING ME UP WITH THE PHONE IS JUST AS DISTURBING AS POUNDING ON MY DOOR!). I honestly do not know why I still bother to use the do not disturb sign. I have enough hotel maid horror stories to fill a book. Highlights include finding a maid taking a dump in my bathroom, finding a maid in my room with her boyfriend and kid (kid was amusing himself with my laptop)and a 300lb maid who sat down next to me while I was eating in the breakfast room, removed her sneakers and began massaging her feet.

2. Other guests. Family reunions down south or kids sports teams completely take over hotels and are a recipe for a truly miserable night. I have twice stayed in Sheratons that had kids hockey teams staying in them. Parents go to the bar and kids run wild over the hotel all night (including playing hockey in the halls until after midnight.

3. Front Desk people who have no idea how to do their job. If your hotel has agreed to participate in programs from hotwire, Orbitz etc it may be a good idea to let the front desk people know. Calling hotwire, orbitz, Hotels.com at 2:00 am is no fun! It seems that the later at night I arrive the more likely I am to get a front desk person who has no clue.

4. Key cards. The 3rd time I have to drag my suitcases down to the front desk because my key won't work, I start to get nasty. Several times I have been given keys to a room to discover someone sleeping in the bed when I open the door.

5. Maids again. I really hate those maids!

6. Breakfast. A pile of white bread and a toaster do not make a breakfast (continental or otherwise). I'm not expecting florentine omelets but I often choose one hotel over another because one advertises a breakfast.

7. Sleazy hotel policies. If you are going to force me to pay for a safe in the room you could at least make it big enough for my laptop so the maids kids cannot get at it. "Electricity fees", "Resort fees", "Security fees", "convenience fees" etc are just borderline fraudelant ways to advertise one room rate and charge another when the guest has already arrived.

8. Demanding a credit card for "incidentals". Like everyone else in the world, I have a cell phone. I will not use the room phone (and often unplug them because of the maids) and I am not interested in paying $20.00 to watch a 3 year old movie. Most of my reservations are pre paid. At least once a month, myself or someone who works for me ends up getting the room rate (which has already been paid) charged to the card they gave for "incidentals". This is a gigantic pain in the ass to get fixed a month later.

9. Door Slams. This really just part of the maids problem. Even if you are lucky enough not to be disturbed by maids pounding on your own door you will almost certainly be disturbed by them repeatedly allowing the doors next to yours to slam on the security lock. This can be as loud as cannonfire in some hotels and will shake the entire building.

10. Bad Internet Service. I always choose hotels which offer high speed internet access. I work from my room and if the internet service goes down I need to spend my day in a Starbucks or Kinkos. Many hotels seem to have the janitor in charge of their IT infrastructure. When the net goes down it needs to be repaired with the same urgency as if the water or heat go out."

And lo, there was much smackdown.
psyco_chick32 points out "Know what I found funny? The fact that he comments how much he hates giving credit cards for incidentals... and THEN admitted that he stole a radio/clock!!" click
i_id assures him that "the maids hate you, too." click
candiandreamr is pretty much alone in thinking that this is a good thing. click

bdgbill is shocked that his post was taken offensively, as "I have spent a week or so reading comments here and after complaining with my coworkers for years about hotels I got a lot of perspective from the hotel employees point of view." He continues to miss the point and believes that responding to no one in particular will heal all ills. They have no problem responding to him, though. bgdbill decides to finish it off with "screw all you psychos, especially the maids!"

I was really surprised it didn't get more action, but the first few replies kinda handed it to him, leaving most to AWTC. It did get posted to C_S and S_F, however, so there may be more.

edit because a link is fine, too

I work at a hotel type place.

When faced with this kind of person, we have a Policy, handed down from On High by the owner himself.

"Just give 'em the ten percent discount, smile, and ignore."

Clearly you do not work at the same hotel as bkmichele!

1. HOUSEKEEPERS not maids. They are people too. I'm sorry that out of your 800+ nights in a hotel you have had a half dozen bad experiences. But it happens. Next time forward your phones and inform the front desk preemptively that you don't want anyone in your room. My property errs on the side of caution/privacy but not everyone does that.

2. If you want the right to complain about other guests then you need to rent 100% of the rooms in a property STFU and deal that other people exist.

3. You want to complain about the front desk? Somehow I doubt you have ever approached us with a positive attitude. Yes we have high turnover, but chances are you are checking in with night audit, who is more concerned with their paperwork than with a person arriving at 2AM. After 10 we start taking bets on who is a no-show. By 1 we are antsy, waiting to roll the day. Call if you're coming past 10.

4. Your keys demagnetize because you put them next to your ringing cell or because someone screwed up. It happens. This is not something we can ever predict.

5. Not bothering

6. Breakfast? If you want more than a muffin, some fruit and coffee, stay at a full service property and order waffles. Most franchise websites do not offer the opportunity to give specifics on our food. It says either 'continental breakfast'; 'full breakfast' or nothing. Call if you really care.

7. We have nothing to do with those policies. They come down from the top and if you ask, they will be taken off. STFU

8. If you read the terms on any of those sites it would tell you that the hotels will ask for a CC at c/i. Oh and for the record, Hotwire guests are assholes by definition and we expect very little of you people to begin with. So you should feel lucky you got a non-smoking room to begin with.

9. Again, we are on the "other guests" issue. I cannot help it if someone slams a door 2 buildings away from where I am. Screaming at me over the phone is not going to help your case. Calling and stating that you have been hearing door slams will inspire me to send my security to that wing and if there are door-slammers they will be stopped. Otherwise you are just creating a reputation for yourself.

10. Internet?? You are complaining about a complimentary service? STFU and deal. We try. We do not have control over everything. If the internet goes down I have to call someone several states away to try to troubleshoot the issue.

Listen here and listen well. I have seen guests been asked to leave because they are psychotic and abusive. If you do not want to meet their fate I would try to appreciate the hard work that goes into making your stay as comfortable as possible. So my housekeepers need a fucking break. THEY HAVE BEEN FUCKING EMPTYING YOUR TRASH AND CHANGING YOUR STAINED SHEETS. We have been serving you breakfast and smiling nonstop for 8 hours or more. Yes we are overworked but you know what. The overnight/ night auditors are typically the most overworked people in the industry. STFU and quit staying at my property.
