what is the sound of one hand wanking?
Bruhaha in this post in the LJ comm [info]buddhists
The OP starts the wankiness off with a typical version of "Goodbye cruel internets fandom community!"
Not to be outwanked, [info]owl_clan aka Son of Art replies and replies and replies, with his thoughts on:
---[info]sophiaserpentia's weight
---BDSM
---psychology
---sockpuppets
---everyone being out to get him
---the morality police
---the Thought Police and Godwin's
---the lyrics to "Cry Me A River" (three times)
He claims it will be "a real day in the christian hell" (whatever that means) when he apologizes to [info]sophiaserpentia... and then apologizes later down the thread.
But we should all be grateful to trolls, because trolls are here to help you grow spiritually.

These are the least buddhist people I've ever met. Aren't they supposed to not have any ego to bash?

buddhists: A story in quotes.

"You're clinging to this argument, so you're thus clinging to your anger, which is causing you suffering."
"Then why are you continuing to attack me in anger? Aren't you just clinging to the idea of a binary right and wrong?"
"I can leave this argument anytime. You're the one perpetuating your attachment; I'm just trying to help. *sutra quote*"
"Then you're just clinging to the idea that I need help from you. *rebutting sutra quote*"
"You're just not Buddhist enough!"
"Who are you to judge?"
"You're judging me! And still clinging to your anger. Now I'm going to let go of my attachment and leave."
"By having to pronounce your lack of attachment, you're still attached to the idea of superiority."
"Meanie!"
"Lotushead!"

Why am I reminded of the sequel to the Silence of the Lambs?

I'm always a little relieved when I get reminded that it's not just Christians who have these kinds of conversations.

I, on the other hand, am sort of horrified. Buddhism always seemed so quiet and dignified. I'm slightly disillusioned by the fact that it, too, is getting its wank on on the internet.

Then again it is a very good example of the universality of religion wank.

It's always the quiet, meditating ones.

(Though, in Sri Lanka, there *are* Buddhist arsonists, strange as it sounded to me.)

"I'll release your damn attachment FOR you!" *FOOM*

They're so thoughtful. :D

I once saw wank on a Quaker comm. No lie.

No matter how quiet and dignified the religion/sect/whatever is trying to be, it'll always have its share of wankers.

Somebody at work was telling me about an evangelical Quaker university. Neither of us could figure out just how that works.

The irony in all those "I know more about setting aside ego than you do!" fights is too amusing.

(Slightly OT, but I love the FAQs on the info page. These are not the rules you are looking for.)
