[info]aria_star says in a thread in [info]inbetweenies On my mom's side, I'm a direct descendant of Pocahontas and of a black slave... thus making this officially the stupidest "I'm not racist but..." argument I've ever seen in my life. Mind you, the whole post is made of crazy, so there's more than just race wank, there's size wank too. Enjoy!

Jesus Christ. Everyone and their dog is a descendant of Pocahontas these days.

And haw haw to "my dad's side didn't even come to the US until 70 years ago!" Because that's sooo uncommon. I know people oppress me for that all the time. 'Cause they can totally tell by looking at me, and if they can't? I tell them. A lot. And then they go, "Ew, gross, your ancestors weren't the original pilgrams! Get away from me you newb!"

And sometimes that makes me sad.

But mostly it fills me with righteous fury!

That reminds me of a discussion in a history of England class where my professor said, "The new King's only claim to fame was that he was related to William the Conqueror! Blimey, I'M related to William the Conqueror! Half of you all probably are, too." Being a descendant of someone who lived hundreds of years ago means jack shit, since their line is spread out so widely.

Precisely! I mean, I'm related to Charlemagne, but so is everyone else with a Western European heritage.

I remember reading in a book called A Natural History of the Rich that, in fact, you're MORE likely to be a descendant of someone famous than otherwise, because famous people get more, um, action.

Hell, it's entirely possible that I'm a descendant of Pocahontas, but my ancestors' last name was incredibly common in Virginia at the time, so how would I know? I'm not a genealogist.

People whose great-grandparents immigrated to the US are definitely oppressed. *nods*

Excuse me while I go remind my friend who's in the DAR of this, so she can stop talking to me.
