[info]aria_star says in a thread in [info]inbetweenies On my mom's side, I'm a direct descendant of Pocahontas and of a black slave... thus making this officially the stupidest "I'm not racist but..." argument I've ever seen in my life. Mind you, the whole post is made of crazy, so there's more than just race wank, there's size wank too. Enjoy!

Don't worry. The coolest thing I can find out about my family is that once a upon a time, someone on my paternal grandmother's side was a patron to Beethoven. Yeah, not so interesting, especially since I have no clue. Just family as far as I can tell.

Now, my godmom's family, that's a bunch of cool people. Uh, the guy that plays Bo on One Life To Live, is my godmom's cousin through cousins. Her cousins adopted her a while back, so it's like he's family. *nods* And there's a race car driver in the past, too.

From what little information I was actually able to get out of my family:

- I have two relatives in the Civil War. One was a confederate soldier, the other a union spy.
- The aforementioned nobility thing. Apparently, we come from one of the "second son" lines, the guy having come to America to grow tobacco in the early 1700s. Most of the rest of my family was either here before then or immigrated in the 1800s.
- I'm a 100% pure bred American Mutt. My uncle commonly jokes that with Irish, German, British, French, Italian, Russian, Romany, Cherokee, and Seminole in my background, my heritage is like walking into a liquor store.
- One of my great uncles was a rum-runner during Prohibition. He married into the family after showing up on the run from Texas and to this day, no one knows his real name.
- The aforementioned great aunt, who had six first names (literally) and three middle names. Her husband left her with four kids during the Depression and, unable to feed them, she killed them, then shot herself.

How much of this is actually true, I don't know. Like I said, there are a lot of "to the grave" secrets, as well as relatives who hate each other's guts to the point I'm not even allowed to bring up the name of one in front of the other. I didn't even know the woman who lives three houses down from me was my great-aunt until I was ten and my grandfather died. Even then, I still wasn't allowed to go near her house or ask questions about her.

::looks up:: Uh, wow. Didn't mean to verbal vomit there.

I completely understand about the speak no evil parts. My mom's family takes up half the county, I swear, and I don't know most of them. I know some family gossip, but most gets the lock down, "only discuss with certain members" type deal.

Most of what I know, I learned from my dad. My mom's family doesn't talk, so. Well, they talk, but not about anything important.
