The Nazi Legacy: Dead Jews and "No Smoking" Signs
Over in LJ Land there's this fun little community by the name of

damnportlanders. It's an awesome comm for the most part, but does have its share of, shall we say, disproportionately passionate folks. Exhibit A:

bennetfox.

Yesterday he posted a rant entitled To the Anti-Smoking Gestapo. From zero to Godwin's in 1.3 seconds? This can only get better.

The crux of his complaint is the smoking ban placed on Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Oregon. Bear in mind that this ordinance went into effect on 1 January 2007, so I'm not sure why his frothing rage had to marinate for 5 months first, but okay.

bennetfox is incensed with this inconvenience to his personal liberties, and lashes out at everyone who supported this ban. All of whom are planet-killing SUV owners who deserve a painful and messy death.

And as I watched this unfold yesterday, I was just going to let it be stupid all on its own. But

bennetfox returned today, enthusiastically pointing the Gestapo to other major cities that they can "ruin" next.

But really it's all okay cuz he's just doing it for the lulz.

	nods Yes, but his name is the one all over the damned place on the sites and whatnot. There were so many changes (not all bad!) to the NYC version that I'm not sure who wrote what. I think Steinman was the one who did the translation into English, though all other changes IIRC are Crawford's. I assume you were unlucky enough to be subjected to it live?

(I started watching a video of it once. Had to stop after 30 seconds because all my astral Von Krolocks started shouting in my head. Since I have four from various productions, it was quite a racket.)

Er, noo. My husband is big into theater and Broadway and we are poor, but we know people who know people who know how to get bootlegs ~~like the Canadian version of Evil Dead: The Musical!~~.

I didn't hate Diva!Crawford. There were things about each of the Von Krolocks that I liked, but I liked each for different reasons. I could sit back and enjoy the NYC show as an over the top, totally not serious camp!show, but I loved the Berlin!Krolock. He was just the right amount of creepy mixed with some mild camp.

Berlin first cast, Thomas Borchert? I saw him at the Vienna anniversary concert this February, he has amazing charisma :)

And by the way, e-mail me at grafin.von.krolock AT gmail.com? Your husband is not the only one interested in or in possession of interesting things ;) And I still don't have a Berlin video, despite the fact that my best friend's friend is in the cast.

	I believe so? Though, in my defense, it has been a couple years since I've sat down and watched it. All I know was that Krolock was amazing. I shall do so! 	In that case it wasn't Berlin, I'm afraid. They only started the Berlin run this December. If he was amazing, that must have been Steve Barton in Vienna, or possibly Borchert in Hamburg.
